Default Need free advice on best time to purchase C6 convertible?

I signed up for this forum in June 2014. I've lurked a little. I finally posted a WTB for a C6 Convertible.

Is there a good time to buy? I am willing to travel, so am I better off waiting until it's cold & buying one from the north, when they have depreciated a little?

The car will be a April 15, to October 15, South Florida Car.

Common sense dictates if I see one I should pay the price, if reasonable & buy it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

After a year of thinking about it and months of searching, I drove my very clean '07 LT3 home on May 20.

I paid a fair price, IMO. Could I have saved a couple of grand, waiting til Thanksgiving/Christmas time when the snow is flying, summer toys are forgotten about, and everybody (except me) is obsessing over "the holidays"?

No doubt.

But that would have been one less summer to enjoy it and I don't have a whole lot of summers left in me. If I did pay a bit more buying it in the spring I don't care, no regrets.

It's been worth it -- and the summer's barely half over.

I have bought and sold around 25 vettes with 20 of them being converts.

I have found I get the highest prices for converts that I have sold in the Jan-Mar time frame, less competition then and on eBay I received offers from all over the US. Summer time is not so great to buy because the decent cars at a good price have long since sold and all that is left are the overpriced ones.

In the south and southwest it is convert season pretty much year around and prices do not change much no matter what time of year it is.

I normally find the ones I buy on the local craigslist ads but you have to be vigilant and check the ads 2 or 3 times a day because the nice cars at good prices sell very fast.

I found the last two within 10 miles of my home from original owners in like new mint condition. Paid Edmunds.com trade in value for them and the last one had every option, still under warranty and only 2,751 miles.

Isn't the rule true that winter and spring favors the buyer and summer and fall favors the seller? If you're in Florida why would you shelter a Vette for six months?

The best time to buy a Corvette is when you find one you like.

In the north, in December.

In Florida, in June. Price goes up when snowbirds flock back.

It really all depends on who you talk to. Sellers will say buying a Vette when it is warm is better if it is warm when they are selling or doesn't matter if it is cold. The fact is that not many people up north look for Vettes when it is real cold and the supply of them is relatively low.

If you find one you like for the right price then buy it.

I bought mine in November but you can drive them year round here. If it is summer, I drop the top in the morning. If winter, I drop the top in the afternoon when it is warm. Very nice either way.
Once you drive a convertible with the top down on a nice day, you will be hooked! Ain't nothing like it.
After you buy one, come back to this thread and tell me if you agree.

All the above is good advice...We went to the Carlisle Vette show last August with the plan to order a new C7 Vert once we sat in them and saw the different colors...Found we actually liked the looks of the recent Grand Sports in supersonic blue...then the search started. Kept checking the different selling sites and finally found the low mileage Vert we wanted from Corvette Mike of New England at the end of October and had it shipped to us...We've put on 5k miles since getting him out this past May and we're having a top down blast. Toured the factory today and went to the museum as well...First time owners

They had a lot of pics and it was a 2011 GS Vert 3LT with only 2200 miles...no marks, nicks, scratches, nothing. Looked like a brand new car which it should with such low mileage and a $22k discount. Their showroom isn't super far from me as I live in WNY and it's a straight shot over to the Massachusetts coast but I just had them ship it to my door and it worked out perfect. Bought my wife's SC 430 the same way from a specialty dealer in Fort Myers, Florida. Tons of pics and discussion and then the car shipped to my driveway. Once again a flawless experience and we love that convertible as well. This buying process has worked great for all my motorcycle purchases and for our convertibles as well. We are pleased
