Default Drill holes for lower license plate screws in rear?

There are two plastic screw inserts at the top to allow me to screw in the upper bolts for license plate mounting but none for the bottom. They did give me the two other inserts and hardware for the bottom two. Just drill a hole for them and snap them in? I am only asking as it seems strange they were not already there. Or did the dealership have to do the top two when I took delivery and were just too lazy to drill the bottom two maybe? Just asking before I go punch holes LOL. I have a license frame and it looks horrible with the bottom two holes empty as frame is black and plate below is white.

There are many license plate frames available that hide the lower holes in the plate and mount everything securely using just the two upper attachments.

Don't drill your car for this.

Check the Forum Vendors for everything from inexpensive plastic to pricey billet aluminum frames.

Hey Neighbor,

My 12 GS is the exact same way. My plate is plenty secure with just the top two screws. I'd get a metal plate frame (more rigid) and just secure it with the top two screws.

Don't drill. Carbon fiber, and body colored frame from GM is rigid enough.

No need to drill the holes. Just cut the screws for the bottom holes so that they don't touch the car when secured to the plate frame. They bottom ones then look like they are secured to the car, but they aren't. And the empty holes are filled.
Just did it on mine.

I put a rubber bumper like the console door into the bottom holes so that it would not scratch the paint. Did it 6 years ago, so I don't remember exactly what I used, but you get the idea.

I used nylon screws (shortened) and nuts to hold the bottom of the plate and frame together, no drilling...

I bought the body color painted aluminum from from RPI and stuck some rubber "bumps" to the back of the plate to keep it off the bumper. It is plenty secure. No need to drill.

Use plastic darts to hold the plate and frame together .... cut off the back to be flush. If you want the whole thing more secure, use some Velcro.

I assume you’re talking about the BACK plate!

I did that both on my 05 Vert and now on my 07 Z06. A machinist friend made up a custom billet plate frame for my 98 Vert and as I traded cars I put it on the new cars. A few people at the different Carlisle shows I went to asked me about that.

I also put those snap on Chevy emblem on all four screw and it looks very nice.

I siliconed the 2 GM chicklets over the holes. Looks good to me.

I didn't like the way my licence plate had the potential to scratch the car back there, so FWIW, I stuck a few 1" felt pads (like you put on the bottom of furniture to prevent scratching a wood floor) on the back of the actual license plate. It snugged the installation so there's no vibration potential either. And they worked out just right so that even pushing the plate bottom in hard it can't touch the paint.

I never used 4 screws to hold a plate on any vehicle I ever owned front or back.Simply put the plate in a frame and use the top two screws.

NO!! Just use "plastic" screws/bolts to fill the holes and cut the backs so ther plate will fit flush and now rub on the car. Works great.
