Look carefully at your window sticker(s)---- plural to include all dealer add-on options.

C5s had them as standard equipment. There was a molded in receptacle beneath the rear storage area lid where the the key was stored.

I'm just sayin . . . .
Actually, I saw the story posted here and mentioned it in one of these previous discussions. The original poster reposted his story, complete with photo. Leaving the car on blocks can make it easier to remove your jack.

You can't believe everything on the internet, but this one seems pretty valid.

If the thief has blocks they don't even need a jack. Put blocks under the car touching or nearly touching the frame, let air out of tires, remove tires/wheels. No jack needed. Takes far less time than jacking it up.

Only the earlier C5 model years came standard with locking nuts underneath a screw on plastic cover. IIRC, sometime around/during the 2002 model year, GM went to chrome lug nuts that replaced the locking nuts with plastic covers. We ordered a new 2003 vert for Museum delivery and it came standard from the factory with the chrome lug nuts and no locks.

What's the option code for this, from your window sticker?

I'm thinking this is after market, something your dealer installed.

I had a 2000 C5 coupe that I purchased new that had the optional Polished Aluminum Wheels. It had the locks as standard and the key was factory located beneath the lid of the left rear storage cubby in a molded to fit niche in the floor. There were directions in the owner's manual illustrating where to find the key and how to use it on page 6-51 in the owner's manual for that year.

The GM locking lug nuts are a Genuine Corvette Accessory (GCA) available through and installed by the dealers. They are not standard equipment from the factory.

My 03 did not have wheel locks. My 13 does not have wheel locks. I do not believe they come from the factory with lock. The dealers must put them on.

I got to follow my 03 down the line, got to do the first start, put the wheels on it (no Locks), went on the test ride in the booth on the rollers, etc. a real fun day. Did not see one C5 that day with wheel locks on the assembly line.

My 97 came with them. There was a notch in the back between the driver side storage compartment and the center compartment where you could store the key under the carpet.

Stopped using them after the nuts got screwed up taking the wheels off and on for every track event.

My '13 1LT with QX3 chrome wheels did not have locking nuts installed when purchased new. I just bought a McGard kit (#24137) on Ebay, which won't stop a determined thief but may well make one go elsewhere because of the noise and effort involved in defeating them. I like the fact that each kit has its own unique nut and tool pattern.

my 90 C4 came with factory wheel locks. But it had "covers" for each lug so you could not tell they had them.

My 2012 1LT Coupe came with wheel locks. They are like gated communities, they inconvenience the honest people.

Bob

Did you ever research crime rates in gated communities versus open ones - most especially residential theft, auto theft, trespass ??
