Default Plasti-Dipped My Chrome GS Wheels

I spent the weekend Plasti-Dipping the wheels on my GS. I love my chrome wheels but thought it would be fun to do this for a little while. Turned out pretty nice looking. I bought a set of black lug nuts too - I started out with the chrome but they looked awful... I thought I had the wheels well coated but out in the bright sun I could still see a little chrome showing through. There is more of a texture to the wheels than I've heard anyone mention so I don't know if that's typical or not. If you look CLOSE you can tell it's something odd. The cool part is I was able to peel the plastic off the flags on my wheel centers - making the wheels look "right". The color of the Plasti-Dip is "Gunmetal" - almost like Comp Gray. I also thought it would let me decide if I'd like to go ahead and buy a set of Comp Gray wheels to swap between from time to time. I'll be thinking about it.

They look very clean well done! I still prefer the look of chrome though.

They almost look blue. Maybe if they were gloss black.

I don't like black wheels.

If your coats are to light you will get texture. The key is to spray as thick of a coat as you can with out runs or drips.

I found the color on the Plasti-Dip web page. I then found someone who sold it online - it wasn't very difficult to find.

How many coats did you use? You will always end up with a very light texture to it. It kind of makes it hard to clean since it pulls apart towels. I think I did about 5 coats on my wheels and they came out great. It's cheap and if they scratch or peel off just spray a little right on the spot and you will be fine.

Did a little color adjustment. Check your camera settings for the BLUE HUE and CYAN. maybe lower the setting a bit.

I think it came out great!!

Hopefully, this photo adjustment helps your testament.

It looks much better as grey. My rims have some flaws building up; may have to look into this.

The pic I attached in my first post was an 3 shot HDR - below is the untouched original with the wheels how they really are. Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience.

It's nice to have a change, but I would go back to the chrome after a bit.

My car had been up in the air all day with the wheels off and I had just put them back on and put it back on the ground in the very spot the pic was taken - I suppose the suspension was still "up"... Is that what you're talking about? Otherwise I have no idea.
