air intake help
I am wondering if a K&N air filter placed into the stock air box will make a difference or do I need to replace the entire intake to make a difference in performance? Any ideas or experience?

If you want to waste money for no gains then go ahead, but otherwise I suggest Airaid for a reasonable gain at half the price of many others.

no.None of them will do much of anything for you and depending on your car,may throw a check engine light. I had an 08 that I put an airraid setup in and it threw a cel.Took it out and all was fine again. The reality of it is,they are all pretty much no better then stock and some even worse. If you want power, get a supercharger! Now,I will say that VARARAM is one that will get you a little gain at speed and a 10th or 2 at the drag strip....if that matters.

Year and model not noted, K&N filters are known to flow better than stock filters with the option of being washed out and treated (lightly) with oil many times over. A CAI may throw a lean code and will require a dyno tune. Stay with the stock air box and look into a cat back exhaust system and work from there.

The performance gains from air induction systems are elusive though most manufacturers are willing to claim them (but not in the context of the simple bolt on gain). But that doesn't mean the gains aren't real. It's difficult to dyno test the performance gain because the car is not moving during the test. Also, a system that does lower internal air temperatures relative to the oem system (but only when the engine is hot and perhaps only when ambient temperatures are above a certain point) can add horsepower that is both relative and conditional but it is horsepower nonetheless.

They make nice filters, but you won't notice much in performance from just a filter swap. I suggest one of their performance intakes or like mentioned an Airaid. Those work great

Look at K&N's website and you will see that they advertise a 1 to 4 HP increase it you replace a stock filter element with their filter.. If they could advertise 5-50 HP increase, and back it up, they would.
The OE Donaldson PowerCore air filter(on 2006> Z06's and 2008> LS3's are the most advanced filter element available and will last for 45,000 miles, so why change it?.

As most have said....no. There are several ways of getting cooler air to you current intake, which has been discussed on the forum. You might try that.

If you have no intention to do significant performance mods and need a filter change, stick with the stock replacement for your '07. It's the safe choice.
