Default Wheel alignment on our Grand Sport

I couldn't stand the idea of ruining a $1800. set of tires so I took our new Grand Sport in for a wheel alignment check to see where we stood. Car only has 215 miles on it. All the numbers were within factory specs, but several were quite a ways apart. So, we asked for a "street" alignment and so far I've been very pleased with this. Generally we took the Pfadt specs and applied them. The dealer was extremely easy to deal with. He kept asking, "Is this where you want it?" and "It's your car, just tell me what you want." I couldn't be m,ore pleased. And if the tires will give me 15,000 miles, so much the better. Hope everyone else who does this has the same good service I experienced.

If you eventually get even CLOSE to 15k on the original GY's, you are one lucky guy, even with the street alignment!!

Good luck!

I just bought our 11GS ..with 10500miles on it.. Got the original F1's to 11600... Understand that is great .. . just a bit of inside to outstide wear, front and backs .. Backs may have gone another 1k.. But I wanted to see how true it really was on a full set. Got the pilot SS's and love them.. not even thinking about changing the allinment! Thanks for all the input and advise guys.

I did the same thing Glen. I picked up my '13 GS two weeks ago and drove it out of the showroom right into my alignment guy's garage. Everything was dead on accurate so he told me nothing to touch your good to go. I have heard about bad alignments from the factory so I was taking no chances. My '12 coupe came with a terrible alignment ( fixed under warranty with 500miles on it ) so i know the deal.

Factor in tires around 10k and you wont be disappointed. I would replacing the Goodyears once per year but I'll never give Goodyear that much money per year for a crappy tire or anyone for that matter. My new 13 didn't even have 450 miles on it before the Goodyears were replaced with Super Sports. Most of that was driving 330 miles back from the dealer I picked it up from.

I've bought several cars new and all of them benefitted from an alignment when still new. That being said I haven't had my C6 aligned. It has 9k miles and the fronts are still good. I do plan to get it aligned soon.

Of course, I said that 4 years ago.

YOU guys don't understand. You need to use PFADT specs not factory specs. The factory specs on a GS are very aggressive and not good for tires lasting very long.

Sorry for the Hijack but this is another thread that rips the Goodyear tires. Since most of the CF vendors read (and sometimes responds) to the threads (as well as the GM service folks), my question is: does Goodyear? They must know what Corvette owners think of the quality of their tires. Do they (GY) ever respond?
Again, sorry.

Pfadt can be googled. They give several different setups from street toto fu!ll race. One aapect to be aware of is that there are 3 different factory set ups. GS's have different specs than ZR1, etc. We'll see what happens.

GM's specs are also very wide so it can be within spec but still screwed up.

The Pfadt Street specs are within the GM specs/tolerances.
Nothing exotic about either one.

I found that the mildest factory specs are close to the "performance street" pfadt apecs.]

Several Forum members have eventually replaced their Grand Sport Goodyears with Bridgestone and Michelin run flats, with rave reviews and reports of significantly longer tire life. If you get up to 8K-10K on your Goodyears, start shopping. When they go, they go fast.

I went with non-runflat Michelin Pilot Super Sports and the change was dramatic in performance and ride when compared to the GoodYear Supercar Gen2 tire.

I just did a thread on this subject this week. GY wearing hard on inside edge front and back, more on front. We are going to Laguna Seca from Colorado on the 9th. Went to Vette dealer in CO. for oil change and decided we would need new tires @ 9800 miles. Car is a GS. Caled GY before we went to dealer and explained the situation. They gave me a case number and told me to have the dealer call them as dealer is a GY dealer also. Dealer had never heard of a customer bringing in a case number but called GY. GY gave me 2 new front tires for 142.00 a piece. Had dealer do alignment on state of the art machine. Gave me print outs of before and after. Car was way out of alignment. I was rite there and watched. Mechanic feels back tires are good for a few more thousand after align. (sure hope he's rite) All in all felt I was taken care of! Grant.

And Mike is a smart guy. But sometimes he gets lucky, too.

I say that because as good as Olefam's work was, I'd suggest that if he really wants to make good miles on his $1800 set of tires, one alignment may not (stress: may not) be enough until the next set of tires. Altho it might be unlikely, just a bad bump, too fast over the railroad tracks, or whatever curb might be hit, and the tires' life will be shortened. How much, no one really knows.
