Default Battery Tender Cigarette Adapter

Battery Tender says "The lighter must be energized when the ignition is off to charge the battery"; can anyone tell me if the lighter is always hot? Don't have my car yet so I can't check for myself.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 2011 GS and the lighter in the console IS on all the time so it is perfect for a batty maintainer.. I Use a CTEK with a cigarette lighter adapt and it works perfect!

Guys thanks for the quick response; the lighter port is so much easier then going under the hood.

I use the one in the center console. Then I shut the cover and run the cord out the door resting in the groove, and shut the door.

I also use the center console one. Seems easier to get to reaching in. Both are continuously energized.

I've also found in my case that the adaptor plug fits much better in the console outlet.

I use the console outlet myself.
Also if you didn't notice there is a notch in the door sill to allow the cord to run outside of the car so it doesn't pinch.

We have the CTEK MUS 4.3 which includes cig lighter adapter for 79.99 shipped!

Plug into the center console outlet and leave the console lid open... effective reminder to disconnect it before driving away.

And if you run the cord thru the notch in the door sill, make sure you don't crimp the cord -- it should move easily when the door is closed.
