Oh no, tire comparision thread
Actually I believe this one will be a fair review.
I just traded in my 2011 GS Vert for a 2013 GS Coupe 60th Anniversary. I had Michelin Super Sports on the Vert and GY Gen 1s came with the 60th Anniversary.
My Super Sports have around 5k miles on them already and are down to 8/32 tread. New tread is 9/32ds.
Goodyears had 450 miles on them. The fronts were down to 8/32nds, rears were down to about 7.5/32ds.
Obviously wear is much better on the Super Sports. I estimate about 25-30k with the Super Sports.
On my previous set of Goodyears I had 12k.
People compare brand new tires from brand x to very old/worn tires from Goodyear. This is not the case for me as I stated above. If anything Goodyears have the advantage. The Goodyears are noisier hands down, there is no doubt. The coupe's rear window likes to amplify road noise. Road noise is there with the Super Sports but not much.
Comfort levels are better in the Super Sports. Everything just feels smoother.
Here is what I think about their performance. Goodyears grip like crazy, unless it rains or is cold. Super Sports don't care about rain or cold. Both hate snow which is expected. In the dry I would have to go with Super Sports though. The car feels a lot smaller/lighter than it actually is. Super Sports will grip like crazy in the dry also. I have had mine up to around .95g in 60 degree temps and they had more left. .85-.90g is a walk in the park for either tire in the dry. I did have my Goodyears up to .98 but that felt like it was pushing it. Super Sports just seem to build the grip quickly but are very predictable.
Another advantage is efficiency. At 75mph the DIC's fuel estimate on straight/level roads with no wind was around 25-27mpg, with the Super Sports it is high 20s/low 30s in same conditions.
Well this is only my opinion but I believe it is a fair one, especially since the Goodyears have not even 1/10th the mileage of the Super Sports.
Please keep the run flat vs non runflat debate out of this discussion. We all have our reasons for deciding between the two of them.

Yeah, sad couple years in Philly. I wouldn't count on the Phils doing anything either so it might be Chip and the Eagles. I get to watch a lot of Oregon Ducks games since I'm out west and his potential is real good.

Phils are done....got too old. Angry at the Flyguys for winning a bunch of meaningless games down the stretch and losing out on a really good draft pick in a very good draft year. Been way too long with no Cup....!!

Nice to see a fair comparison rather than the usual old dead Goodyears vs brand new other tires! Sorry you had to suffer along in a new 60th GS on a beautiful day with an 80mph posted speed limit on the way home.

Thanks Phileagles. I don't want to hate on the GYs. I do think that some of the advantages that the GYs may enjoy over the MSSs relate to the firmer sidewall inherent in any runflat. I've got 5K on my GYs and they appear to be good for another 5K. However, I'll be getting my GS realigned to the Pfadt specs levels more friendly to the track which is likely to result in some more uneven wear. Anyway, as it stands now I look forward to riding on th Super Sports sometime next year.
