my ride in my obsolete car
#41
LoL saw two other vettes today, both C6's - first a red gransport. He could have broken my wave cherry.. but alas did not even look over or sense my existence. Then I pass a (I think) ZHZ. I waved, and he waved back very confused... like "oh ****, I should wave in case I know you and I won't seem rude later". Starting to think that waving isn't as common as I had hoped! I'll try again tomorrow
but to keep it relevant, I too am glad I just received my obsolete piece of art.

Thanks Tadge but I'll keep my C6
weather finally turned really nice mid afternoon, so i grabbed my obsolete c6 vert and went for a nice long ride through some winding roads here. had a blast. even saw a dinosaur c5.
a few observations i had. my bose stereo was very loud and clear, and easily drowned out my exhaust note on the 427 with open pipes thanks to m2w. that new stereo i though i would need, i dont.
the mag ride really did its job on bumpy curvy roads, worth the money.
I could actually drive my car, instead of being worried about preordering for an unknown price and not driving it until halloween.

For a while I have been feeling the pressure to move up to the C7 as it becomes available, as I didn't want to spend my drive time in an obsolete sports car - didn't want to feel like I was in yesterdays ride - didn't want to be embarrassed parking next to a C7.
But I'm OK now - I'm content with my C6. What changed - I realized I'm just as obsolete as my C6 or more so. We fit !!

You thought driving a C6 would embarrass you because it is "yesterdays ride".
Thats a shame.
I may have many character flaws, but "keeping up with Joneses" is not one of them thankfully.

I was recently at the local Conoco station sitting at the pumps talking to a buddy outside my car. I then see a sweet C5 roll up, guy gets out and walks into the store. He comes out a moment later and I turn to talk to him and tell him his car looks good. We make eye contact then I notice he is disinterested in even saying a word and without fail he turns toward his car, gets in and drives off. /shrug i dunno what was up with that.

One of the reasons I no longer bother with it.

I just bought a 2013 427, I expect it will perform well and look good for many years. I could easily decide to skip C7 and wait for a C8 at some point. Will it be 7-8-9-10 years? I doubt anyone at GM really knows. But by then I'd be chomping at the bit.
It's a familiar feeling for me. I decided to pass on the Bangle Butt BMW E60 (for appearance reasons) and my E39 was getting pretty long in the tooth.
Cheers,
JB

I was without a vette since 2003 due to life, mainly getting a business started and prosperous. In july I decided it was time to get one again. I started looking at 08 verts, didnt like the prices, then looked at grandsport verts, couldnt find the right deal for me. finally in late november i just decided to buy a new one. I was going to get a gs vert, but the limited production and homage to the 427 of old made me take the leap into one. no, it isnt a big block, old school 427, but its still a way fun car to own and drive. the extra few thousand bucks wasnt a big deal to me over the gs.
I now have brand new vert and am enjoying th F*** out of it!!!
will I get a c7 someday? probably, but until then, I dont care what they call my c6.

Ah, **** on Tadge. I had a passing fantasy about a C7 until I thought about the replacement price for my C6 with 14K miles. I like obsolete much better now.

I ordered my 2013 last spring to avoid the C7. I traded my 03 the 50th year for my 13 the 60th year.
The best decision I feel for me. I kept it torch red the 03 was thenlightmoak interior and the 13 is the cashmere interior. Still a 6sp manual.
My C6 is awesome. Super great power, smooth ride, quiet, as compared to my 03.
The more pics I see of the C7 I am still glad I didn't wait.
I will be at the bash next week and will see the C7 live then.

Just bought a 13 Anniversary GS Coupe today.
The appeal to the younger generation C7 isn't that appealing to me. One thing I love about all Corvettes is that they are unique. C7 is not unique looking.
