Default Whining noise while in neutral

My car has had this noise ever since I bought it and I was wondering if anyone knows what it is. It only does it while in neutral and clutch not engaged. The car runs fine and performs great, but that damn noise is annoying.

You can clearly hear the whining noise.
When you can't hear it the clutch is being pressed.

Im going to end up redoing the clutch and bearing aren't I?
:/

My guess is a torque tube bearing is bad, probably the rear one, or maybe the trans input shaft bearing.

You need to get a helper and get under there with a stethoscope and pinpoint exactly where it is.

Turn on the A/C and see if it gets louder. Thought I read somewhere about the A/C compressor causing that noise.

Sounds like you have the world's only Powerglide-equipped C6.

Default They sound right.

They sound right. For a stethoscope, I sometimes use a broomstick handle because you can reach in a long ways under a car. Just cup your hand around the end with cupped hand against your ear and put the other end on different points. I even do this with a long screwdriver under the hood on alternator, water pump, idler pulley, etc.
