Default What to look out for when buying a c6

Hey guys! I am 18 years old and am going to be looking to purchase a c6 Vette this Friday. I am extremely excited and just wanted to know what I should look out for when buying one.

Here is the one I am going to see:
http://www.mastriamotors.com/Vehicle...-MA/1962656183

I saw in the pictures that it had a K&N CAI or maybe that is my wishful imagination.

Nice car but I'd say about $4000 less would be a more fair price.

Reports say it has had 4 previous owners in NY, MA, RI & NH. That is a lot of ownership turnover in 8 or so years . . . . and as others have said, the price is high by $4k or more.

I would not consider the car unless you have a mechanic of your choosing go over it to make sure what you would be getting.

Nice car, except being an auto... If it is what you want try negotiating to at least 26k

Great looking car I would offer $5k less but the best part is that it's an auto so you'll enjoy driving it!

I agree with the first part of the sentence. The seats look good with minimal cracking...it looks like large exhaust tips indicating aftermarket exhaust...Z06 style wheels...CAI.
Does it have HUD?
Also, 4 owners in 8 years is more than I would like but nobody drove it much. Contact a local Corvette club on where to have it checked out and drive the snot out of it.

Looks good but overpriced, I'm in the market for my first vette also and I saw some with that mileage going for 25 to 26k with one owner so that price is way too much.

But why wouldn't he enjoy driving a manual? Please enlighten me as I never driven one

1. Corvette is a low car... get down & inspect underside, esp. front radiator supports and side rocker panels. Don't worry about scrapes on the lower front air dam -- that's normal.

2. Tires OK? At least $1000 for a new set. And examine the wheelwells for residue from abusive smoky burnouts.

3. Definitely has HUD. Try the controls (left side of steering column) -- you should be able to adjust the image brightness & position on the windshield.

4. Make sure the auto-shifter moves easily & smoothly... ham-fisted previous owner might've damaged it.

5. Auto trans does NOT have column-lock, so no worries.

6. Looks like it has the optional 1SB equipment group ($4360). Check the telescoping steering column, seat functions, seat heaters.

7. Look at the sticker in the glovebox... confirm Z51 performance package ($1495)... not just a fender badge!

8. CC3 transparent roof panel... does it also have a solid painted panel in the hatch area? That's the C2L dual roof option ($1400).

9. Insist on TWO sets of keys and fobs. Try the key to manually open the hatch.

10. Online owner's manual:

Yes, there are lots more things to check when buying ANY used car. Some things are unique to Corvettes, so DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! Lots of related threads, like these:

watch out for the salesmen trying to convince you the car is the greatest thing ever; there are many C6s on the market right now, so if anything looks sketchy move on.

most modifications do not increase the value, but some salesmen will try to convince you they do (funny thing is they'll say the exact opposite if youre trading the car in)

2006 and up autos have 6 speed paddle shift

2008 cars got a better engine and better steering rack

look here for other C6s - you should be able to find some good deals:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...s-for-sale-98/
and
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-d...inventory-118/

good luck!

Check for excessive Harmonic Balancer Wobble

Contact forum vendor Gene Culley at GM Parts House for a GMVIS report on GM repair history

First thing to look for is clean underwear to take with you. Always leave a pair in one of the back compartments. Never know when they will come in handy. And some wet wipes......those are a must.

The kid is 18, he is going to need that stuff. lol

From looking at the pictures I could only guess about which factory options it had but when I checked on Edmunds, and listed those I knew it had, the retail price is closer to $20,000. As mentioned, owner installed options don't count and can, in fact, lower the price of the car unless they are only cosmetic. No one puts on performance parts to drive slow. Also, as mentioned, insurance for an 18 YO might be a deal breaker. I know on sportsbikes the cost of insurance for young riders can exceed the payments for the bike. I expect the same for a high performance car.

For the same price, I would look at an 08 or at least an 07 with similar mileage. The 05 C6 has only a 4 speed auto, whereas the 06 and above have a 6 speed paddle shift auto, so that alone would be better.
The rear differential in the 05 were weak, and was changed in 06 with an improved and stronger differential.
The 05 has the XM antenna frog either on top of the halo, or on the trunk lid. The 06 and above removed the antenna from the outside, and hid it inside the side view mirrors.
The K&N CAI is not worth $5K
You can put one on yourself for less than $300.00
Good Luck with buying your dream car.
