Get your kicks in your C-6 on Route 66?
In a previous thread many of you mentioned that your passion for Corvettes grew from the TV program Route 66. I wondered if any of you have taken any of your C-6 (or any other of your vetts) for a road trip on that classic highway? If so, do you have any pictures, or better yet, pictures and stories of that epic journey? I am not sure how much of that ancient road remains, but I do know there are stretches that are lovingly treasured by those communities in which it ran through before the interstate system made it irrelevant. For those of you too young to know about this great highway there is this:

For those of you that not only remember this road, there also this song by Nat King Cole who I believe was the first to have a hit with this Bobby Troup song. Nice video too!

12 of us took a partial Rt 66 from Birmingham, Al to Joplin, MO to Arizona
great trip, not much of the old 66 left, bits and pieces
The Vettes of the Midwest have a very nice show in August that I would suggest you drop in to see, if that is in your timeframe
We did 5000 plus miles in 11 days for our Iron Butt trip.
The Amarillo Club met us for dinner . And, they suggested sightseeing and places to stay and eat along the way.

U.S. Route 66 ran from Chicago through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona to Los Angeles CA. In Oklahoma, a number of miles of the old U.S. Route now make up and have been redesignated as Oklahoma State Highway 66. We quite often travel the parts of OK 66 that made up the old U.S. Route in our Vettes and other cars. We have also traveled parts of the old U.S. Route through several other states. There is lot of history to see along the old route. Also, there are a number of museums dedicated to the old route in several of the states, three in Oklahoma.

Here I am crossing the Big Piney River on the Devil's Elbow bridge on Route 66. It's located about 5 miles east of St. Roberts, MO.

I may do a Grand Canyon and Monument Valley ride late this summer. Did it before on my Hayabusa and had a ball. Its like being in a John Wayne movie travelling thru Monument Valley! Will hi-ball it to Vegas and then put the top down for Route 66.

The only patch of the MTNF that Route 66 runs through is around St Roberts. Very scenic in that area. Fort Leonard Wood is located smack in the middle of that patch of the MTNF. I bet a bunch of our CF members spent some time at Ft. Wood.

In '09, I drove my '91 from Chicago to see my daughter get her phd from The University of Oklahoma. I44 parallels stretches of Rt66 through Mo. I drove some of the old road. There are ruins of the old roadside motor inns. An old Rt66 bridge with a view of I44. Old cemetery just off the Mother Road. A lot of it had dead ends and very bad pavement.
The display is at a rest stop on I44.
