Only 18 MPG ????

It's all that stopping and starting for the 50 tolls on the GSP. Get E-Z PASS

Re-set the average MPG on every fillup or it means nothing for that individual tank. You may be reading an average for every tank of gas combined. Those 1/4 mile runs will net you about 3MPG.

Soon after my ex and I got our '07 C6 A6 she took it on a trip and when she got back the light came on about a mile from home. I had filled it up and reset the odometer/fuel average. I figured the mileage with a calculator against the DIC and it was the same. 30.2 mpg. I kept checking the DIC against the calculator and it was consistent.
My '08 A6 gets 24/25 combined city/highway and have made several interstate trips and averaged in the high 20's and low 30's.

In fact I'm racing at Atco on Fri (about 150 miles one way) after I'm finished racing, I'll fill it up right near the track, & reset the DIC fuel gage, & will fill it up when I get home (about 150 miles) all highway with NO stops (I have E-Z Pass) and check it manually.. I'll get back to this thread on Fri night ...not sure what time the later the better (that means I'm winning) LOL

I agree on the 12GS. Would figure it would get more. Would hope it would get more.
But to the original posters question, It is disappointing to see someone with a different view of what to expect if you mod your car calling the original poster's question pathetic. We are not all hardened racers like he must be. I guess we should not be allowed to mod our cars.
I know when I started modding my 01, I was very surprised to see how much it affected mileage. I'd still rather have my mods than the mileage but I notice different people have different results and their mods are not that different.
I'm not smart enough to know the sublte differences in the mods to be able to account for the vast differences in the mileage.
My friends tell me you have to pay to play!

If i'm not mistaken E85 gives less power per mile.... so less millage. There was a study somewhere that showed that premium got the cheapest per mile.

NO! I'm "NOT" complaining, just wondering if it was normal... I have gotten 22 mpg if I keep it at 60 mph...but thats very seldom.. I'm going to fill it up and do as some have advised drive it (all highway) NO RACING.. and fill it up when its low & use a calculator.. & see how that compares to the DIC..

I have found with most vehicles or at least the V8s I've owned AND my Cummin diesel 3500 that 1950/2000 RPM MAX and under is best fuel MPG. Over 2000 RPM it starts to go in the toilet. Also head winds. The other morning I drove my 2009 Dodge 1500 with 5 speed auto and a 3.92 rear gear from Athens Georgia to Atlanta. 80 miles. Going ,best I got was 16.3 at 70/72]mph. I thought DAMN thats bad for this truck. In the dark, wind blowing bad,. Coming ,back later in the day, same speeds I pulled in my driveway at 20.4 MPG.

Jpee, when I lived up in PA I reset my DIC before driving 80 miles to Englishtown and raced all day and checked it when I got home. I averaged, for the day 21-22 mpg and on long trips from PA down here to FL several times I've gotten between 28-30 for the 7 years I've owned my C6. Plus, that's driving 70-80 mph too. I think that perhaps your converter may be messing up. You should be getting way better mileage unless everytime you get on or off the road youre nailing it. Now even around town and in lots of traffic I still get 21-23.

Good & Bad news today. First I went to Atco in NJ and lost in the first round.. I went . -005 RED Light, on a .500 Pro Tree so I had plenty of time to drive home... so I filled it up right near the track, & drove 153 miles home and used 6.6 gal of gas... (I was going about 70 mph) with NO stops... Anyway that figures to 23.18 mpg and my DIC said 23.8.
Close enough... & now I'm happy I'm getting better gas mileage than the last try, (I think I had some city driving mixed in) when I got the 18 mpg...on my DIC in my first post....

I don't know much about the A-4 transmission but 18 mpg seems way low for an extended segment of an Interstate haul (even with your modifications). My bone stock MN6 using cruise control averaged almost 31 mpg on certain legs of an Interstate haul. With my fully built LPE 403 motor, long tube headers, etc. I could still average almost 28 mpg on certain legs of an Interstate trip.
Gas mileage on the street or the track will be way less but IMO you should be doing far better than 18 simply cruising on the Interstate. Other than making sure you're resetting the mpg indicator correctly, I'd fill the tank, note your mileage, drive the car and refill it and do some computations the old fashioned way to make sure you're getting an accurate mpg number. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

As the list of mods goes up, the mileage and the right foot go down.
I started out stock LS3 with 256 rear - 28 MPG.
Intake, Headers, tune - 24MPG
342 Rear - 18MPG
1500 Novi SC, Meth, X pipe, 680 RWHP, - 16 MPG
Loving every minute of it.
