Default Mixing oil weights

Laziness not withstanding, I need some opinions on this:

*Doing an oil change on the C6
*I have 5.5 quarts of Mobil One 5w30 syn
*I have .5 quarts of Mobil One 5w20 syn

Is it really a big deal mix this in such a small quantity? Can't get to the auto parts store for several more hours.

In my old beater truck I used to have I wouldn't have had an issue with it, and in your Vette I won't have an issue either...but I wouldn't do it in mine. I highly doubt it would hurt anything, but I would wait for the right stuff.

It won't hurt a thing . I have deliberately mixed 3 qts of 5w-30 and 3 qts of 5w-20 [ winter use ] to get more favorable oil pressures in very cold weather during short trip driving . No worries .

Seriously?

Yes, GM will see your post, secretly take oil samples which will prove you deviated from the factory fill and then send you a letter voiding any warranty coverage you may have left. If you do not have a warranty, it will show up in a Carfax report as an incident that will likely catch the attention of the state. The state will then issue you a salvage title.

Cliffs: Won't hurt a thing.

Why bother mixing at all? Put in the 5.5 quarts and then when you have time, pick up another bottle of 5w30 and then top it up. It won't hurt to run it a half quart low for a short period of time.

OMG!!!!........Mobil 1 5w30w syn and Mobil 1 5w20w syn DO NOT MIX.

It's like mixing non-fat milk with maple syrup, or acetone with carnauba wax, or AB Negative blood with Type O.

Whatever you do.....don't do it!!!!!!

Well, that may be a slight exaggeration, well, it may be more than a slight exaggeration, in fact it may be an extremely strong case of stretching the truth, well, to be absolutely honest.........it is completely false.

In actual fact, it won't make a damned bit of difference......go ahead.

Patman has the most logical answer IMHO . I agree. Why over think it. 1/2 a qt., Some people spill that much..

You shouldn't, but that mixture gives you 5W28.3. Your call.

I appreciate OP's question though. I have the same jugs of M1 5W20 and 5W30 scattered around the garage. Usually, if there's any doubt, it goes in the wifes car.
