I think that chrome tends to be more on the bling, showy, and classy side of Corvette styling. They're shiny, stand out and catch the light at car shows.
I think that black wheels tend to be more on the aggressive, evil, racing look for the Corvette. They make the car look meaner and and more intense to me.
I prefer the aggressive style for my car, so I'd love to upgrade to darker wheels when I swap out the stockers. I do think that straight black tends to get washed out at a distance, so I'm thinking more like matte gunmetal or something.

Chrome is not for sports cars!
Brushed, silver and black.
Real sports cars don't offer chrome as an option
Chrome is for dressing up a truck or passenger car. IMO
If you want someone to look at your wheels and compliment them, get chrome
If you want a compliment on your car get otherwise.

Chrome for me. Black just doesn't do it for me any more.
It may be my age, but when I was young we left the wheel covers off so that we could change the wheels and tires out for the slicks at the track on the weekend. Painted the wheels black, so we didn't put on hub caps or wheel covers that would scratch off the paint.

As I have previously said, black is cheaper to produce than chrome. If I were a bean counter for GM or whatever company I'd try to push black wheels too. And because you have bought into the silly notion that black is the mark of a "real sports car" I could charge you a premium price for a cheaper item and make more $$$

I love my corvette and now among true sports cars, it is around the bottom end of the latter.
Chrome deteriorates and can flake off, not cool.
Corvettes came with polished and the dealers had them chromed and charged you 2000- ha.
Just recently they offered GM chrome on some wheels. I am in marketing for over 15 years working with hundreds of wheel companies. So I think I know a little.
Corvette is really America's only sportscar in production!
There are hundreds of finishes for wheels today!
Yes Europe leads the sportscar industry. Why do you think when they builds new vette they the engineering is always looking at Porsche.
Don't you have to go to Wallmart...

I had this discussion with many folks as a consideration for my 13. What is peppered throughout this thread is the same results I got when talking to people. Black has left a bad taste in the mouth of those who were on the racing scene up through the 60’s. As it is looked at as cheap, where chrome, polished and aluminum are more of a way to dress up the car or make it pop.
Today Black is the look for a mean aggressive look and what people are doing at the track. The younger generation is grabbing the black wheels and will continue to be fans 50 years from now of black wheels …… just as the folks of the 60’s still grab the chromies today. It’s a generational thing.
The folks that have seen cars come and go over the last 40 years don’t know of the black wheels stigma and the black is new/different and a current fad.
I think the 96 GS had first black wheels and over the last 17 years more and more folks are putting black wheels on their cars. One of the baddest looks I’ve seen is a Velocity Yellow C6 with yellow calipers and black cup wheels. As the car rolls down the street it looks as if it’s floating as the wheels/tires get lost in the pavement. To truly appreciate this the car needs to be rolling down the street, not at some car show sitting still.
10 years from now C6 demand will be a younger crowd looking for Black wheels, 6spd with high miles, while the older crowd is looking for Chrome wheels, automatics with super low miles.

I love my black wheels. Here is a pic of a good example. Below pictured is my dads Crystal Red GS and my White GS, both on opposite ends of the spectrum. My dad is in his 50's and I am in my lower 30's. Everytime we talk to older an older crowd my dads car gets all the praises. If its a younger / racing crowd then my car gets the attention. Still a lot of it has to do with the different generations. I am sure by the time the current young generations are old enough to by vettes etc.... they will want to have bright neon green wheels or something like that for their look.

(2) Hundreds of wheel finishes? Most of us could at best come up with 10 not including paint colors.
(3) Did you actually read the bold sentence before you hit the "submit reply" tab?
