Default 2011 key FOB battery dead already?

I have a 2011 GS and in the last week or so, it won't always unlock the doors when I get up close to the car ... sometimes it will, sometimes not ... and it's getting worse.

Using the extra key FOB that came with the car opens the doors every time without a hitch.

Seems like the battery in the FOB really should have lasted longer (from previous experience with many other key FOBS to include the key FOB in my wifes 09 Hyundai Santa-Fe SUV which still works great).

Anyone here have a premature battery failure on a fairly late model Chevrolet / Corvette?

hummm... i'll say NO or at least i've not read of the FOB battery lasting 2 or less years. With that said, i already bought spares for my 2011 GS , just in case.
My wifes car took the same ones as the vette so i bought an extra set, threw them into the glove box.

Now in 3 years they might be run down.. lol.. but i was prepared

Where is your fob when you approach the car door with it? If it's in a pocket, what else is in that pocket with it?

Any strong electronic fields nearby?

Replace the fob battery - they're cheap.

Coincidentally, I had to replace my FOB battery a couple weeks ago, it's a 2011 GS daily driver, so it gets used a lot.

Vette purchased Feb 2011, same symptoms, they went away with the new battery installed.

If a button on the fob is held down accidentally, the life of the battery can be shortened considerably. This can happen when it is squeezed against something in a pocket or purse...lots of ways. Battery life is also shortened if the buttons are used often vs never being used. The system is designed such that it is not necessary ever to push a button on the fob.

We'll, I switched batteries from my other (extra Corvette) FOB into the FOB that has not been working good ... now it works perfectly

Time to buy a new battery.

BTW ... I never even use the buttons on the FOB ... Maybe one of the buttons was accidently held down at one time, but I really never carry anything else in the pocket I put my FOB in.

The drain on the battery might have even happened before you bought the car...squeezed a button in a drawer at the dealership etc...

Thank's cclive .... Just seems like some FOB batteries last like what seems forever, and some just don't last long at all.

oh well

At least I now know it was just a weak FOB battery

BTW, the FOB battery that was weak had a dent in it, while the other one didn't

And I bought this car new from MacMulkin with only 2 miles on it.

Could have been an accidental situation when the dealership owner's kids were joyriding in the car before you bought it...LOL!
