Default Backup Camera Installation

Here are pictures of my recent backup camera installation. Good friend of mine did all the legwork finding equipment and working bugs out with his install. Made mine really easy! Camera and monitor are from the big online auction site. Camera is set up for license plate mount, but this blocked access to emergency hatch key use. He modified the included mount, but I fabricated a new one which is slightly smaller and allows for camera angle adjustment. Monitor is 2 1/2 " color screen and mounted with 3M tape. The set up was wireless as received, but we hard-wired as picture quality was better. Good set-up for way under $100. Neither have had issues with camera location.

Yes, that would be very helpful. And how exactly did you mount the monitor?

Thanks for the PM. I actually went on to that website and was browsing before I saw your message. I think I'm going to go with a different unit, the biggest problem I'm having right now is thinking of a place or a way to install and hide a larger monitor. When I get it done, I'll post pics.

Here are a couple of pics of the monitor on. Pardon the dust, it's been a bit windy here lately!

If you wired into the back-up lights, I have a question. I tried to wire back-up sensors into the reverse light wires but there was not enough slack when I pulled the bulb socket out of the rear of the light to easily get to the wiring in order to connect the wire from the sensors to the reverse light.

How did you go about it?

It is powered from the back-up light. We removed the BU light wires from the clip on the inner fender. This provides some slack, however it is still tight but doable.

Congrats on the OP for finding a suitable place to place his monitor. It's hard to find that right place in the interior for add ons.
I managed to get mine affixed to the driver sunvisor after a few other attempts in different places.
Kudos to the OP for a nice set-up.

Alan did his connections from underneath the car. He had the rear wheels on ramps to give himself some room. I made my connections by taking the tail lights out and working through those holes. All connections are soldered then taped. Little tight working through the tail light holes but being a dentist I am used to working in tight places!!
