M6 to Auto - how many have switched?

I can understand why you are making the switch and heard all the pros and cons of both the Auto and Manual. I love the manual and shifting and doubt I would ever get an auto.
But as long as you enjoy whatever you choose that in the end is what counts.

I actually went the other way. Had an '07 base with A6. I suppose it was just me, but I could never get really comfortable with the paddles, just thought it wasn't much fun... I just bought a 2012 GS with M6, and I truly love it, but I don't really do all that much city driving.
Also, I read that in 2012, GM tightened up the shifting on the A6, making it quicker and more responsive. My '07 always seemed to shift "soft" if that makes sense??
I don't think you can go wrong either way!!
BTW, my '72 makes around 500 hp and 500 tq, and its an auto, and a HOOT to drive!!

I would never consider getting an automatic in a Corvette! I have driven everything from monster rock carrying Euclid's to Acura Cl's, all with manuals. Yes, stop and go traffic is less fun, but an auto would be too much of a sacrafice1

When I purchased my 2009 C6 I swore I would never own a Corvette with an auto trannie. But now it is 4 years later and the 09 was sold last summer and I am looking for a 2013 with an automatic.
Two ACL replacements and one broken left arm have opened my eyes I am not getting any younger and made the decision my health might limit my driving if I bought another M6. Anybody else go from a M6 to an auto? Any regrets?

I went from manual to auto trading an 07 for a brand new 2011 with the a6. Less than two full months later I traded the 11 for a brand new 2012 m6...
A Vette isn't a Vette without the stick....Given physical handicaps notwithstanding... As hard as I tried to tell myself the automatic was good in the Vette, it wasn't. Might as well get a Cadillac for a 300c or something like that. I mean if you are too stiff to shift a manual you're probably to stiff to lay down to get in and out of the Vette anyhow. Its getting harder for me every day lol but the shifting is still fun.

Just FYI .... your 2004 was a C5
My first Vette in 1967 was a manual, but I only had it 2 years before it got stolen.
Then I had several more manual trannie cars and several automatics.
My first C6 was a manual in 2004. Had it for only 2 months and my FIL passed away, and so did my wife's backup car with automatic tranny. She can't drive a manual and doesn't want to learn. So, I swapped the manual C6 for an automatic C6 so she'd have a backup when her car is in the shop or disabled.
Have had an automatic since, since I do a lot of in-town driving.

No doubt manuals are more fun to drive. Been driving a stick since I was 16. But when you get older you slowly learn you dont have 100% use of both arms and both legs on a full time basis.
Just curious, what % of C6's are sold with autos vs 6 speeds?

my '01 Trans Am was an M6 but when I got the Corvette I got an A6 because it was to be a DD and Toronto traffic is bad - I do miss shifting a manual and if I had the money for two I would have one of each

Crazy thing is that I am 37, owned nothing but manual transmission, until I joined the vette club. My 09 was automatic, my 10 GS was an automatic. I had 2 rules this time around... no black, no auto. I live in Houston and while it was nice to have an automatic, I missed the feel and control of a manual. I'm glad I switched and I am loving it.

Safety Car
My 13 is a M6, my 03 was a M6, and my 68 Camaro is a 4 speed.
Now if you want a tired leg get stuck in traffic with that heavy duty clutch in the Camaro. It also has regular steering, and regular brakes.
I like shifting, I guess it is a control issue with me.

My 06 Z51 was a manual, wouldn't have anything else at the time. After 5 years of shifting in got really old. Bought my 2011 with an A6 and wouldn't trade it for anything. I can paddle shift that transmission 10 times faster than a manual. I'd take most all manual trannys off the line.

I had an 05 CTS V once and of course they were only available with the MN6. I developed a hip problem that year and ended up selling it for a loss. Been driving autos ever since and I love it. Plus it is nice to know my wife can drive the car if needed in an emergency.

In the OP's situation I can certainly understand the necessity for the auto. For me personally if I "had" to by an automatic Corvette....I wouldn't buy one!
