Which in-dash Navigation unit for XM/iPod
Just bought an 07 Z51 a couple weeks ago and I have been doing a ton of reading on this site but I can't find an answer to this question.
I currently have the stock system (w/Bose) + XM enabled. I was looking into adding a GM Pal kit so i could run my iPod but i figured I might be better off using the money to put toward an aftermarket Nav unit that has the Aux hookup.
So I am basically looking for something that fits and fills out the dash nicely (no flip display) and is able to do GPS/Aux hookup/run my XM and if it can do Bluetooth and A2DP all the better.
What kind of options are out there? About the only unit I've found while looking at crutchfield was the Alpine INA-W900BT. Does anyone have this unit or can recommend something similar/better?

I believe there are some Kenwood units and a few Pioneer ones.
I am getting a Pioneer Z130 soon. They can be had for under 1000.00. You also need the PAC harness. You have to be sure to get the one designated for you car, i.e. Bose factory equipped & Onstar.
No *****, looks clean and the iPod interface rocks. It has Nav.
I hear the Kenwood Nav is a tad bit better but for as often as I will be using the Nav, I will be glad to have anything. I have had experience with the Pioneer iPod interface. It is AWESOME.
I have always been a Pioneer fan. My home theater room in my house uses all Pioneer Elite components.

When I bought my '09 C6 it already had the Pioneer nav/stereo system and I really like it.
It works with the stereo steering wheel controls.
Also does blue tooth, but I don't use blue tooth so I don't have any input.

I have the OEM Nav unit and the only reason I am keeping it for the moment is that I like the HUD integration. I have the PAL II from Kwal and it works fine but the Nav unit operation with the iPhone is crude (but usable for my purposes).
If I were looking, I'd check with DoubleDMods (he is a member here and he has a thread advertising a new, low cost unit). Check him out.

Kenwood DNX7190. Dennis @ DoubleDmods will set you up with a plug and play setup that requires only two wires be spliced into the factory harness.

Thats a very clean, factory looking touch to your aftermarket stereo
Anyone know how to go about doing this ?

Last year, there were promises that one of the aftermarket units would soon be able to work with the HUD, like the stock nav does.
So far, I haven't heard about it actually being available. Did I miss something?

Yup, thumb drive, .jpg photo, upload, enjoy. Also +1 for Kenwood Excelon DNX series. If your iPod has a bluetooth radio, you don't even need the USB plug through the glove box. No wires.

But if you're runnig an iphone via USB for music, doesn't it then negate the need for a car charger since the deck should be (slowly) providing power/a charge to your phone as you stream your music

Sure using the usb plug will charge it, when you need it, but blue tooth streaming sips battery pretty conservatively. Absolutely no need for a dedicated iPod/MP3 charger in the lighter.
