Default "Service Active Handling" ... Recall work failed

This is more of a dealership/recall question. I know all about this problem already.

i've got an '05 couple with the telescopic steering wheel. i've been getting the SAH message alot lately and its starting to get on my nerves. looking through my records it appears the previous owner had a SAH recall work (recall 10118) done on the car. I don't think theres any open recalls on my car right now though. Does anyone know if the dealer will be likely to fix this since it obviously didn't work?? Ill have to call them tomorrow to see what they say,. Just thought i'd see what the CF folks think..

If the dealer isn't up to it, and they probably won't be, then you're stuck fixing it on your own. It's likely the connector even though already fixed by the dealer repair.

Here's a DIY fix that might work, if you're up to it. If not maybe get an independent mechanic to do it:

agree with Rick. you do need to have your codes read when the message is on DIC before you turn off the car, or at least before it is restarted. each time the car is started, C codes (those that would tell you why the SAH message) are erased and checked to see if they should be activated again.

so its possible that you have something other than steering wheel position error. i too agree that refix will be on your dime. but again, verify the C codes (tech2 reader probably required) to know for sure.

List of items that cause the error are.....
Wheel Speed Sensors
Brake Pedal Position Sensor
Brake Fluid Pressure Sensor
Steering Wheel Position Sensor
Yaw Rate Sensor
Lateral Accelerameter Sensor
or... bad contacts/connectors/wiring for one of the above

thats alot of possible C codes

i need a code reading that can read ABS codes too right?

I'm afraid that i will be stuck with the repair on my own coin. The car does still have an extended warranty on it but I don't know how much or if it'l even cover the fix.

read the brochure that came w. the extended warranty. if it's GM's, it clearly states what isn't included; everything else is.

FWIW, our 2006 had the TSB clip installed at the factory, but the wires were still pulling. Dealer tech rerouted the wires to get more slack and that fixed it.

I would check the wheel speed sensors. It happens from time to time that one will come loose. Sometimes after a brake job or replacing wheels and tires.

I thought this was a TSB rather than a recall?
