Default flywheel HP

a new 6.2 liter (376 cubic inch) LT1 V-8 engine that pumps out 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels

I found the information above at the Chicago Auto Show web-site. 400 HP to the wheels = what at the flywheel? Yes I know there is a C7 forum but no one is there. Any ideas?

Flywheel HP is usually 10-20% higher than rear wheel horsepower.

450rwhp would mean "roughly" 530 flywheel hp. There are losses in the drivetrain. How much depends on the drivetrain.

Chances are the wording you saw was simply wrong.... no one knows at this point, but I don't think anyone is expecting the C7 to dyno 450 to the wheels off the showroom floor.

500 rwhp would mean roughly 590hp at the crank.

I doubt the horse power is to the rear wheels crank maybe also torque.

This link will provide a little better insight into the not so accurate concept of percentage loss in the drive train.

That may be a little high, 500 rwhp = 575 crank horse approx imo.

Careful! I got a couple people all twisted up a few days ago for saying something like this.

Apparently some think it’s not only okay, they welcome it!
