Default Gs tire depth

I just checked my tread depth on my 1 month old G.S. From the factory new they are 8/32". Now with 1035 miles all 4 tires are at 7/32". At the rate it is going in another 5000 miles I will be looking for new tires. G.M. must be aware of this problem. Goodyear tires and G.M. should be ashamed of their self. For $70,000 I expect better than this.

I have always heard 8-10k is not uncommon.

There are several posts on this topic. What's typical (as it was with me) is you'll get to 10K and replace them with the more durable Michelins or Bridgestones. There are additional choices if you don't want run flats.

I wonder if a Zo6 wears tires at the same rate as a GS. I looked at an '08 Zo6 w/ 8700 mi today. I assume it had the original tires. They looked to have maybe 8-10k mi.of tread left.

The factory standard tires/wheels on the GS & Z06 are the same sizes (18" F/19" R),and I believe the factory
tires are the same: GY EMT Gen:1s on cars without MSRC, or GY EMT Gen:2s on cars with the MSRC (someone
please correct me if I am mistaken).

f y i, The Z06 with the Z07 package has different wheels/tires: 19" F/20" R with Michelin PS2s.

Sounds like normal wear to me. I only got 8000 miles on my first set. It's a performance car with performance tires. Performance tires have a softer compound for better grip. Soft rubber wears out quicker than harder rubber simple as that. Make sure your alignment is correct as well.

Z06s should wear tires at the same or higher rate than a GS. It all depends on the driving style and the usage of the owner.

If you're concerned about whether or not they are the original tires, you can always compare the build date on the tires to the build date on the car. Obviously, a build date on the tires later than the build date on the car will mean that they are replacement tires, although a tire build date earlier than the car doesn't necessary mean that they're OEM (depends how often the tire warehouse runs through stock).

Jim - The 2010 Grand Sport has been out since 7/09, and many have reported on this Forum their tires wore out after only 8,000 to 10,000 miles, many years before you bought your car. In addition, many, including the April 2012 issue of Motor Trend Magazine, have stated "this car with these tires, is outright dangerous in the rain and cold. These rock-hard Eagle F1 Supercar tires have no grip at all when their cold". Unfortunately, far more competent All-Season tires, with at least double the life you are experiencing, are not available for your "wide-bodied" G/S. Buyer beware.

Guess I should feel blessed to have 4/32 left on my year old GS at 11,000 miles. Had realigned at
7,000 miles for "street" driving. Handles a lot better in wet also. And so it goes.

I'd like an Oil change, top off the washer fluid, and oh yea a new set of tires.
Had to change the rear tires on my GS at 7000 (1 year). Put on some Michelin's hoping to get some better wear. Had a street alignment done at 3000 miles. The fronts look like they will last awhile longer. Hopefully someone will come out with some AS some day for the GS/Z06.

As all others have also stated, your car uses tires that are optimized for optimal traction, not tire life. For that, you should buy a base C6 with all season tires

I wish tire manufacturers provided high performance all season tire options for GS/Z06 sizes, but I guess the market is just too small for them to do the investment (since there's no other car in the market that uses our tires sizes; especially the rears).

Note: Michelin PSS tires provide substantially longer life (around 2-3x?) with even better traction; you might want to consider those. They are not run-flat, though, and for that, you might consider PS2 tires, but they won't last as long as PSS tires.

Got my GS with 3100 miles on the tires. Then drove 2500 miles home from Flint Michigan in mid December .About 2000 miles and dry weather then hit the Idaho mountains and Oregon mountains with 1 to 2 inches snow and below freezing conditions .Then rain was 34 to 40 degree temperatures and no problems .I've put on almost another 1000 miles plus in rain and frost with temperatures 26 to 40 degrees .No big deal to me .My Cobra with Mickey Thompson Street radials and 10 inch wide front and 12 inch wide rear is 10 * scarier than driving the vette. With all the rain driving I'll probably get 12 to 15,000 miles on these tires. The GS is an amazing car but I usually do take off all the nannies .I figure if I'm going to crash it's going to be my fault and not some nanny kicking in when I least expect it .I put it sideways only when I I want it to .I can't stop driving this car is much as possible .GS buyer beware ?No GS buyer be happy !

Well since I am on my third set of tires in less than 6000 mi, I have a different view than most. First set out of spec and couldn't be balanced. Replaced free. Second set replaced at 5200 because the dealer was incompetent and totally screwed up the alignment. Third set, free, is fine all around. PFADT street spec's are your friend along with a good alignment shop.

Now as to rain and cold nannies. I use mine as a DD for a retired guy in Va. Don't go out on roads under 30* and drive like a 67 yo when it rains. No issues, and unlike some folks, absolutely love the looks and the benefits of the Grandsport are worth every penny

I did exactly the same. I repalced th rear tires on my '12 GS after only 7 months with 8300 miles. I put on Mich. pilot SS. These are not runflats, but I will chance it. I still have the GYs on the front. The are starting to look a bit tired now with 13.5K on them. They will be good for at least 2k more. I will replace them this spring.
