Oh I know you guys are just razzing me a bit on my punctuation. My car gave me a fit with the hatch popping open once I fixed my personal car I have fixed a few customers cars. The tail tail sign is the third brake light. Oh it also helps we own a shop and I have plenty of info there is a tsb out on the high mount stop light burning dim at all times I hope it helps.

I also had a similar problem in one of my C5's that turned out to be a computer (BCM) that had been damaged by water dripping on it as a result of a clogged A/C drain.

How about brushing the button on the dash getting out and causing hatch to open.

Just replaced the battery, and have to new battery in the fob.
When I close it, pops open twice, then stays down.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have had this issue for a few weeks, replaced the fob batteries (it does it with both fobs) It usually happens when I get out of car but today it happened when I was still in it, after i turned ignition off. I have also noticed the repeated clicking from behind radio area, may or may not relate to this.

Pull and clean the hatch release button above the license plate.
It can get grit in it, causing it to to stick in the upwards position, and a slight jolting to it is enough for the contacts to dance open then back closed to release the hatch.

Don't know why it happened, but happy gremlin left for another car.

My 2012 'vert trunk was popping when new which I attributed to a weak battery, the car having been at the dealer for 6 mos.
Charged it up and no more popping until just lately.
The battery is charged, but 3 1/2 years old. Think I'll "pop" for a new one and see what happens. Don't need that happening when parked outside somewhere.

Again, the rear bumper cover on the vet is one of the dirtier places on the car, since grim gets sucked/blow up into it and there is not easy way to get this areas clean.
When you pull the latch release button after a few years, will find that its covered in a fine silt that has caused the inner button section to bind to the outer button section, and this ends up with the button fully pressed in and staying there.
Its a digital signal that the car will ignore most of the time with the button fully stuck inward since the button is making contact all the time to send the signal, but the glitch is that the button can slightly dance break the contact connection and make the connection again, or the car can forget that that is getting a constant signal instead, and pop the hatch since it getting a signal from the button to do so.
Bluntly, when you go to clean the hatch button (and make sure to pull it all the way apart so you can clean the copper contact points inside the button), use contact cleaner, and do not use any lube on the parts that will attract grim when you put it back together. Also, on the top sides of the housing where it snaps back in to the car, once you have the button back in, tape closed the side slots to prevent grim from getting back into the button to bind the inner button back up in the outer housing again.

Are you sure that it is actually "locked" prior to popping open. Try shutting the doors with the window open and see if the lack of air pressure against the hatch solves the problem - if it does then you are probably not fully latched and the force of the door closing pops it (the hatch) open.
