Default Tires ...run flats or not

i am replacing the tires on my 07 C6 coupe ... Looking at Firestone Firehawk wide oval ... Michelin PS A/S Plus ZP ...both are run flats.
My Goodyear dealer suggested Kumho Ecsta SPT ...which are not RFT.

Any thoughts/experience would be appreciated.

Not to be rude but you should try a search on that subject as there are hundreds of threads on that topic, and you will get pros and cons both ways. Bottom line it is your choice based on your driving habits and what you think is important. Good Luck..

I wouldn't necessarily go by what your Goodyear dealer suggests. As mentioned, there are many threads on this subject. Before deciding on a specific brand of tire, you should decide between runflats and non-runflats. How much do you value the keep-on-truckin' capability of a runflat tire (especially without having a spare tire in the car)? Once you decide on runflat or non-runflat, then you can zero-in on which brand tire you want. Many C6 owners are fine with using non-runflat tires but when I drove my C6 on the street I wanted...I valued runflat capability. When I'm running on the track then that's a different story.

I know nothing about Kumho street tires but FWIW Kumho makes a very decent track tire. I've used Kumho 710's many times with excellent results...they provide good grip and they're durable and longer lasting than most all other track tires I use. I would speculate that Kumho makes a very decent street tire as well. Good luck.

If you don't drive the car much and never go far from home then it might not matter.

The Mchelin's are the way to go....they are the best in my opinion. I have had all kinds of tires and 2 kinds of Run Flats and by far Michelin's are the very best. There is alot of truth to the saying:"you get what you pay for".

Get non run flats for half the price and get a AAA membership for 60 bucks a year.

Depending on size of tires you need if they have your size and Corvette model you have, On my 2005 the Continental Extreme (D)ry (W)et (Snow) all season tire was the lowest cost tire out there with long life on the market. They have another model above that one Extreme DW which is a sticker dry wet tire.

1000% I ditched the run flats and run Conti DWS - they ride great and hook reasonably well even with a 540 tread wear rating! Last Saturday I ran a 12.109 1/4 mile showroom stock sans the run flats . . .

And Continental is a brand name that comes on cars as factory equipment. Not a no name brand like the Korean tires that cost more than Continental

Good point! And with a TPMS-friendly compressor/repair kit tucked away in the trunk, what more could we ask for!

Let's see? Dyna Plug, Slime Safety spare kit, and extra air compressor with a battery jump starter in it.

I like mine and actually had a blow out on the RR on the freeway. They did what they were made to do, and I had no body or wheel damage. Don't know what I ran over but it must have been metal. It got the sidewall from just below the bead almost all the way to the tread. You get what you pay for........extra insurance and peace of mind.

I vote for run flats. The reason, and nobody seems to get, at high speed run flats will not blowout, a catastrophic tire failure at 90+ mph, even slower, could get ugly. We have the technology.

I must say that I did drive about 20 miles at 55 mph on the factory Goodyear runflats when one of my front tires went to 0 pressure. But I drove home and put in Dyna Plug and drove around another 6 months on that. The runflats did what they were suppose to do.

Piece of mind, I would go with the runflats. A bit of compromise in ride and performance but worth it to me.

You can't use slime in these tires they have sensors that will get gummed up.

They are sensor safe as indicated inside instructions.
