2021 C6 of the Year Finalist - Modified

Default Tip .... Clay Bar is not just for paint

I have a 2011 GS, and for quite a long time my rear wiindow has not been what I would call 'crystal clear'.

Even after cleaning over and over with windex, the rear window was dull and had streaks.

I blamed it on hard water spots, so I cleaned it with a strong acid solution to remove the calcium deposits ... Still not clear!

Well, today I got out a clay bar and rubbed the heck out of it with detail spray as a lube.

After claying the rear window, I wiped it all down very good, and what do you know .... That rear window is as smoth and clear as the day the car was new.

And to think ... I thought clay bar was only for paint.

Just a little tip for you folks.

Glass gets the same contaminates as paint. Clay will remove surface cantaminates but it won't phase water spots.

I just recently started using my claybar on my windows (inside and outside) and putting a good coat of wax on them. Claybar works better than window cleaner IMO.

When I let my black Jeep sit for 5 months in the harsh Tacoma, WA. elements (uncovered from February thru June) , I came back to a Jeep riddled with hard water spots. Clay worked like magic on the Jeep paint, but windows were another thing. What worked wonders on my windows was Blue Magic Metal Polish. The glass looked BRAND NEW and the gloss, reflection, and shiny was incredible!! In fact, it was so impressive, I took a photo looking into the dark tinted glass and it looked like a mirror. Not to mention, no more water spots. My vote for windows is Blue Magic Metal Polish! It works!!

Hard water spots are from municipal treated water systems. What you had was rain spots, not hard water.

Good idea. Last week I bought some Detailer’s Pro Series High Performance Glass Restorer from AUTOGEEK and used my porter cable to apply it. It really did make the glass look like new again

Wow....Didn't know the difference. Hard water spots, rain spots....They were a PITA to remove! But in the end, the Jeep looked better than new with over 9 hours of love and detail.

The wolf is right....between the citric acid and the carbonic acid found in Coke a Cola, it will clean it right up.

BonAMI its been used for years on glass. Learned about it when I took over a Cadillac service dept. Wet glass and sprinkle a little, scrub with a paper towel and rinse.

BonAmi was sometimes used on recip airplane engines when the rings wouldn't seat and oil consumption remained high after several hours. Remove the air cleaner, run the engine at idle and throw a couple of handfulls of BonAmi into the intake, then shut down and change the oil. Watch out for the propellor....

Never needed it myself, but the old timers swore by it.

I clayed my D/D's this summer but noticed the windows didn't look good so I tried the clay on them. I couldn't believe the dirt I got off the windows. The paint had hardly any contaminants on it but the windows made the clay brown in seconds. Much better now. Plan on doing it in the spring then tossing some sealant on them

In the car care section, they've been saying, "Use the clay bar on everything but the rubber" for years!
