50% off Goodyear Runflats or full price for Michelin Super Sports?? HELP!!
I have 8500 miles on my GS. The OEM tires have maybe another 2000 miles before they will be too smooth for my personal tastes safety wise. I contacted Chevy and told them how upset I was with the wear life. They sent me to a local dealer and to their credit they are trying to do the right thing. They have offered to prorate a new set of tires at 50%.
So here is my question. Should I take it? I am looking at 1k out of pocket by the time I pay for mounting and balancing etc. if I take the discount and buy the runcraps. I can get a set of Michelin super sports out the door for around 1700.
Saving 700 dollars would be great, I mean 700 dollars is real money to me so I am tempted. Would you take a new set of Goodyears for 1k or would you spend 1700 for the Michelins? Thanks for your input! B

I would take the Michelin's. Not only will they last longer than the Goodyears but the ride is MUCH better. If you price the Michelins Tire Rack...they have the lowest prices...and take that price to your local dealer, they should price match it for you.

I am ok with non-runflats. I agree with the 98% majority of Corvette owners that all of the Michelin tires (runflats or non-runflat) are better than the GY. I am wondering what you guys would do if faced with the two options:
A. New set of OEM GY for 1k out the door
B New set of Michelin Super Sports for 1700 out the door
Clearly you have already decided that you prefer the Michelin tires by a fairly wide margin. So you should be OK with paying significantly more for them. The only question is how much more. Since you are convinced that $700 will buy you better tires that will last much longer, I don't see why you are hesitating. Go for it.
I'm going to buy the Michelin Pilot Sports next. Only 3K on my GS manual (I have the G2s), and am pleased with the performance of the tires, but are bad for rain, and noisy as hell. And runflats are just an imaginary piece of mind IMO (I carry a flat kit anyway, and would treat runflats as a regular tire if punctured). Plus only specialized shops can work on them without damaging the expensive wheels. The Super Sports are the best summer tire by far, with at least equal amounts of grip, way better in the rain, and reportedly way quieter. Oh, and much lighter as well, due to not being RFs. To answer your question, I won't even complain to GM if my tires crap out like yours, because I'm going to replace them around there worn or not. And no, not even 50% off would make me reconsider my decision. Oh, and watch your wear pattern; if all tires are not worn evenly, you need a realignment. Let a specialized shop take a look at them before removal; you want the shop to see where you have the problem. Good luck.
I wouldn't pay a premium for any non-run flat because I'm not looking for problems. You don't care and have already made up your mind that you want the Michelins.
I wouldn't box myself into a position like that. I'd cut a dollar deal based on the Goodyear prices. If I didn't want Goodyear's I'd buy the Bridgestone run-flats and get out cheaper than either of your alternatives with a longer life tire than you already have that would also provide enjoyable driving.

Work for a discount from GM on the Michelins, depending on how long it takes you to put on another 8500, you could be facing this problem in a short time. 1000 gets you 8500 miles vs 1700 or less can get you 20000+ miles. I prefer RF, go with PS2
My DD is a 2012 Camaro. The Camaro comes standard with a compressor and a can of Goop to seal the leak. You have to pay extra for a spare tire.
My next set of tires for my 2011 GS will be non runflats and I will carry a can of Fix-A-Flat for emergencies. And Fix-A-Flat does not mess up the TPMS sensors.
Super Sports for sure! No question. Get a mini compressor from Amazon and throw it in the rear cubby. You're good to go. The Super Sports were designed for the 458 Italia. My friend races GT3 Class for Aston Martin and he thinks they're the best street high performance tire you can buy. Quiet, high tread wear, amazing traction in dry and wet. No brainer.
And in the interest of full disclosure they're on my car as well.
Oh, and no car I've ever owned has had a run flat tire. I've also never had a catastrophic blow out. I've definitely had punctures, screws, nails, etc. which cause slow leaks. When I get a slow leak I pump the tire up with either the mini compressor in the car or the big compressor in the garage and then take it to a tire repair place. Pretty standard no brainer, no drama stuff.

I'm sorry..... I thought the Michelins you were looking at were RF's. There is NO way I would have NON RUN FLATS on my Vert. NO way. I don't track it so I do not need a ULTRA performance tire. I am more concerned with the security that RF's give me.

This would be my choice. I had a similar problem and the dealer gave me a credit of $200 per tire. I bought the PS2 run flats. Can't speak for wear as I traded the car within a year but, a much quieter tire with great improvement in overall ride quality.
I just replaced my Goodyears with Michelin PSS ........even if the Goodyears were free I wouldn't take them......Take the Goodyears...don't mount them then sell them and use the proceeds to help fund the Michelins.

I purchased my 2011 Z06 with the Goodyear SC run flats on her. After about 2 months of spinning rear wheels when I shouldn't I tossed them and put on 4 new Michelin super sports. These tires stick like glue. In fact, I live in Chicago and routinely drive spirited in 35+ degree weather. The traction is phenomenal in temps above 50 and "very good" below that. The wet traction is equally as good and your car will feel much more planted in the front end. Get the Michelin's.
