Never has the saying you get what you pay for applied more than with radar detectors.
IMO the only thing you should even consider is the V1, escort redline, or escort 9500ix

My wife has an even better version of this cobra and it is not good, we got what we paid for. In my work van I have a whistler 695 which has been a very good detector for the money.

I would pass on that one, reading the reviews on it, there are just too many false signals.
I would look into some of the Beltronic models, they make a good detector reasonably priced.
The V1 at $400.00 and the Escorts in that price range are overpriced for what you need and get.

I think of a radar detector like I do tires. If I am going to be going fast, I want the best quality tire that I can find...same thing goes for the radar detector. I love my Escort Redline.

Didn't want to pay $300 for a detector but didn't want a cheapie either.
So I got a used Escort 8500 X50 for less than half price on fleabay. It has worked flawlessly for over 4 years now.

I had a cobra xrs 9345 a few years ago, and it worked Ok for my needs, mostly highway driving. It was around $100.00

A friend of mine was driving to Fla from Ri a few years back so he mounted his radar detector in a box of Kleenex with a hole cut in it. He got as far as VA and was pulled over by a trooper who took his kleenex box and detector away. I guess he wasn't the first one to think of this trick..
They use radar detector detectors. Kleenex box won't help. Lol

Have had a V1 for years and finally sent it in for an upgrade. Mine was the earliest version so they sent me a new one, complete, for $295. It's saved me thousands over the years, on my motorcycles and in my cars. Won't leave home without it. These days, even one ticket costs well over a hundred bucks, not counting increased insurance costs. If you are a traffic scofflaw like me, a new one at $400+ is still a great deal and pays for itself with just two 'saves'. (That) can happen in just one afternoon! Buy what you want but don't complain if you continue getting tickets using a cheap one.

Why settle for an expensive one if you can avail the cheaper one. And the nice thing about is you can choose the best radar detector without worrying the budget.
