Default Going to look at a 2008 Corvette - Questions..

Hey guys, Tomorrow I am going to look at a 2008 base model automatic Corvette. I currently have a 2002 base model automatic
Corvette, I am not as familiar with the C6 Corvette as far as what to really look for, if you guys have any pointers on what to look for, please post. The car appears all stock except for two things, the air intake was replaced with a Hurricaine brand C.A.I., and the exhaust catbacks were replaced with a SLP brand of exhaust. I would prefer
that everything was stock factory equipment, not sure if one or both of
those replacements would be a deal breaker or not. I read that the Hurricaine air intake breathes from the bottom and the factory shrould has to be modified. I guess if for some reason I do not like the Hurricaine air intake, I could replace it with factory or some other brand of air intake, probably in the 400-600 dollar range. Also the exhaust
could also be replaced for probably 1000 dollars or so, I believe. The car looks really good in the pics, one owner car, chrome aluminum factory five spoke wheels, 56K miles, asking price is 30,995. Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated! (Car also has the preferred equipment group package) Pics below are of the actual car I am interested in.

WELL,there are lots and lots of vettes,08's that is,out there for roughly the same money, maybe a little more with far less then 56k on them.As for what to look for, if the car makes noises when turning slowly and cold it needs it's rear fluid replaced. The top may creak as well if it's an early build 08 especially.I've had 2 08's and the creaking roof was an issue with both, one was a late buil and the current one is an early build.Love the car though. Not a lot of issues anyway. You can do better price wise for that kind of miles though.

56K are more miles than I would really want. Their asking price is 31K, for my peace of mind, I will go look at the car and check it out closely, and find out how firm they are on the price, nothing like seeing a car in person verses a picture. The Jet Stream Blue appears to be a rarer color, that is the color I want and that limits me. Here are Pics of the car:

You're right on the color. Not as many of them. Especially with the middle tail light matching in color. Never seen that, could be just haven't seen enough. Those miles? That price? Yeah, kinda high. I have a stock air intake sitting in my garage doin nothing. I put a BBK CAI on my '08. I'll send you the stock one for $100+shipping if you don't like the hurricane. And I JUST sold my NPP exhaust for $400. You can find stock ones out there for cheap. Install is cheap too ($150). Chrome wheels look good though. People upgrade to chrome all the time, always the first mod. Honestly, if you really love the car, then don't let anyone talk you out of it. For me, my vette is priceless, cuz ill NEVER sell it. It's MY corvette and I'm in love with it. Good luck.

It's rare that it would have those rims on an 08.. A few did but most were split spoke painted or gum by....any car with SLP exhaust which tend to be very loud might have been driven hard. I'd be listening to the owner and seeing what type of driver owner is is.

If he seems as if he drove and cared for his car responsibly then I'd offer 29 grand.

I have an 08 c6 z51 manual 55k miles and it's been a fabulous car ...no problems and a lot of fun.

Good luck..31 is a little high..(by 2 grand at least). Having chosen just one color makes it tough. That said. .....don't limit yourself unless the car is in good shape.

I did not know the the brake light area matching the car and the wheels on the car were not common, interesting. I do realize that
the car having SLP exhaust (loud, from what I have read) could have
been driven hard. I will check the car the best I can looking for bad juju. Is there any way to tell what rear end ration is in the car, I believe on the C5's there is a sticker in the glove box with codes, not sure if there is something similar on the C6 like that sticker in the C6 glove box. Here is another pic of the car:

Rest assured the 2008 LS3 with 56k on the clock will outlive a Z06 that spends most of it's life in the garage.

Nice Car. I have a very Similar 08 MN6 with Z51 pkg in JSB with those Rims. Love it. I bought it in August of 2011. To give you some perspective, It had 4000 miles and I paid 36K. The asking price on your car seems high given the mileage. Though JSB can be hard to come by and it is the best color IMHO. Good Luck.

Yeah, that looks good. Keep the rims, tint the rear window to BLACK, smoke out the tail lights, get a quiet deep exhaust (look for npp), and cruise THAT around town. Looking good.

I did quite a bit of looking before I bought my 2008. It didn't seem to matter if it was a 2005 or 2008, 1LT or 3LT. The one with the fewer miles fetched the better price. Mine had 36k miles and I paid $31,000, 3LT package with Corsa exhaust. Just to put things into perspective. Did I pay too much? Perhaps. Am I happy with my purchase? DEFINITELY!

Looks like a nice car, good color. Two weeks ago I purchased an 08 z51 3lt car 6sp manual dual mode exhaust, I pulled the fuse the first day, and new tires for $29,000 with 50,400 on the odom. I looked at dozens of cars and this is my 4th Vette. The car I purchased has more miles than I wanted but was very well taken care of and fully maintained. I was looking at a 08 1lt base for $31,000 30,000 on the odom but the car I bought looked so much cleaner and better maintained. I also called each dealer on the car fax and they were great in giving me all of the service information. One dealer even looked at the GM site for work that was completed at other dealers. Good luck shopping it is fun. Do your research on each car and it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. When you find the car you will know it, no questions or second guesses. Lastly check the original in service date. My car has a power train warranty for about another year...

Looks like a nice car..and that color with the chrome wheels is rare. I just bought a red tintcoat 08 auto, LT3, chrome wheels, 5K miles for 34K last month. All stock. Well it was....I just did the CAI, Borla exhaust, and tune. I would not be scared by the intake and exhaust. Most people do these mods just for the sound.

When I buy any used car I just look the thing over real well and take your time! Look for paint work seams under weather stripping, look under the car real well, get maint records, go to the dealer and have them look up the VIN and give you any history, carfax....etc.

best of luck!

I bought one just like it new. I wish I had the JSB color now. It was a great car that I traded when it had about 60K miles (I think). It had no issues except the creaking roof. I would not be uncomfortable buying a 2008 with those miles.

BTW: When I purchased mine I spent several hours on the lot walking around and around a line of new vettes in many different colors. I finally decided on the JSB (which is what I was after anyway). Everyone of those cars had the same wheels on them that this one has. None of them had the split spoke wheels.

Good luck and enjoy the search.

I have an 08' with 54,000 miles. Perfect condition. January I will drive it 3,000 mile trip with no worries. His asking price is what I would want if I were selling. Go for it and enjoy. The air intake and exhaust mods are common and do not negatively impact the car.

Recently an acquaintance picked up an '08 JSB with 36K miles for $29,900 from a Chevy dealer here in town. Compared to his, your price is a little high for the miles. His in an MN6 car, while that one is an A6 which means it was a little more expensive new, at least in that regard. I believe his also had painted wheels, so the chrome wheels on that one were also more expensive when new.

The car you are looking at looks like a 1LT - quick glance, members correct me if I am wrong. I saw no Nav, no heated seats, and worse, no HUD. I am spoiled by the HUD in mine and it's a must have if I were looking.

All in all, the car looks OK in the pictures but it's hard to tell from just those few. I would say the price is just a little high for a 1LT with those miles. Get them down $1500-2000 and it would be a fair deal IMO.

DON'T buy this for $31K. Just seeing the trim for the first time. A nav set up will run $1500 for aftermarket, $2200 for oem. HUD (a must have) is another $600 installed. You already want to replace the mufflers and you're gonna have to retune the auto tranny to have any fun. $26K tops or just keep shopping. Be patient. Your soulmate...er car is out there somewhere.
