You are correct, Somewhere around 25,000-30,000 miles there was distinct mis-fire at idle, you could actually see and hear the sparks jumping to the exhaust manifold thru the plug wire boots !!! I found 3 of the wires were cracked/broken from heat from the manifold. This happened on the both sets of GM wires so I installed Aftermarket wires with heat shield covers, No problems since !!!

I'd say you could get a millions miles if you wanted to. Just as you said, regular maintenance will do the job. There are lots of chevy trucks on the road with a million+ miles.

Living in a throw-away society, along with the auto industry's persuasive techniques on convincing people that 100k is "high milage". Dealerships thrive and make a living off of that notion.

Thank-you Very Much. I found it. So this morning I drove to work with it on. It was a little chilly around 50 degrees here in San Diego. I drive about 25 miles to work. The read out was 160 when I started and 183 when I got to work. Is there a level that I should keep an eye on? How hot is to hot? How cold is to cold?

Coolant will get up to normal (190-220) pretty quickly. Oil takes a lot longer, depending on how you are driving. I want to see 180 on my oil before having fun, ease off if it gets above 250. Those numbers came from a retired oil engineer.

Some people with the big oil cooler say they never get to 180 oil on the street. GM has been switching to a coolant/oil system in recent years, which actually heats the oil when it's cold and tends to keep the oil around 190-220 on the street. To me, that's a hint that romping on the throttle with low oil temp is not a good idea. Just my idea, nothing official.

If you have the air/oil cooler visible in front of the radiator, you can make and gently install something to cover it for street driving.

I think I might have been the original owner. She's looking good!
