Non-Ethanol 93 Octane

Will you REALLY notice a difference by putting 93 Octane in a Stock LS3 Vette? Our local Shell Station just started offering this. Mainly for the Boaters. It is 50 cents a gallon more than 93 10% Ethanol.

Try it and let us know.I would be more then willing to pay the extra 50 cents for Ethanol free gas!That stuff is waste and detrimental to every car out here not purpose built for that crap.Racing fuel at the strip is something like 100 octane and I think free of that garbage.Last time I went it was 5 or 10 bucks a gallon,can't remember,it's been a while.I think you will notice a difference for the better,personally.

Lol do some research on e85 please, yes your mileage will go down but its basically cheap race gas and smells wonderful when it burns. Most of the "cons" posted here such as your car isn't built to run ethanol is completely false... I'd start with the performance section when you begin your research please.

Last time I tried it in an LS2-powered C6, it made slightly more than 1 MPG improvement. Cost was $0.25 a gallon more than 10% ethanol gas.

The service station that sells it is about 5 miles from me, so I haven't tried it in my LS3 C6.

50 cents/gallon seems a bit stiff.

Other than that, I would love to be able to put 100% 93 octane gasoline in my tank.

back in april when i drove down to BG from NY i encountered some gas stations along the way in different states that had pure 93 rather than the 10% i always run my car on in NY. i usually ran the tank to empty and filled most of the time with pure 93 so i pretty much ran with that for most of my trip down.and to tell you the truth i felt no difference.

Theoretically slightly better gas mileage. Ethanol is less energy dense than gasoline.

IMHO yes I get 2-3 mpg better mileage on my 2009 running premium w/o ethanol. Same results with my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I hate Ethanol tainted gasoline. Stupid EPA.

I pay $0.15 a gallon more for 93 octane ethanol free gas then for 91 octane ethanol free or 91 octane with 10% ethanol. My Z06 loves 93 octane ethanol free gasoline.

Gas mileage? Drove from Tulsa to Dallas today (11/20/12) average 30.5 mpg..... that's with E10.... car has 97,300 miles on it....

i noticed a slight difference when i ran it in my car, of course that's a carb'ed setup
however just ever so slightly, nothing earth shattering (seemed like it has less of a stumble/hesitation so to speak on tip in)

it is much better for storage, the eth gas doesn't like to sit at all

you can try puregas.org to find stations in your area

its great for lawnmowers, and small tools like that

when i went up to the pump an older guy with a vespa was using it too
he said his mpg goes up, but as he said not enough to warrant the increased cost
he uses it since his scooter sits for periods of time
also said when he uses it in his lawn mower, it will fire right up after sitting for time too

in a nutshell, don't get to overcrazy to seek it out or pay for it, unless the car sits for longer then 45 days

as far as e85.... i'm gonna have to look at that, i'm seeing posts where guys are running 12:1+ compression on it with no problems...... some even 14-16:1
yeah.... the lower bearings may not live long, but man... can you imagine that crisp throttle response and harder hitting idle
the big solid rollers look more attractive now

There is an app for iPhones called Pure Gas that will locate local gas stations selling non-ethanol gas. I have found that at times it is not upto date on stations selling REAL gas.

I use 10% better mileage as a good rule of thumb for real gas vs. ethanol gas. That makes it very easy to see how much extra to pay. OK, maybe the difference is only 5% lower mileage with crap but I figure you also will get a better quality gas from a station that doesn't depend on goverenment support for their bottom line by always selling the cheapest product they can find. The physics says they are screwing their customers if they mix in ethanol just as if they had mixed in water and sold it for the same price.

It's more like a 3% hit on gas mileage running E10

It's also absolutely nothing like mixing water and running it for the same price as ethanol has a much higher octane rating than gasoline.

I've found that I see more like 5-6% hit in gas mileage when I have to run E10 in my Z06. So what if ethanol has 105 octane. GM designed my Z06 to run best on 93 octane. Putting in 105 octane in an engine designed to run 93 octane does not improve the engines performance. I don't have the compression in my stock Z06(11:1)to fully utilize 105 octane.

You aren't getting 105+ octane unless you're running E85

I don't notice a seat-of-the-pants performance difference and it's hard to compare one tank to the next but using it in 3 of the last 5 fill ups but it does seem to give me ~8% mpg increase.

And 93 octane is 93 octane, with or without ethanol being added. You brought up the argument about the ethanol's high octane being better then gasoline.

I run 93 octane ethanol free gasoline in my Z06 and because of the pure gasoline's higher BTU, I'm getting more energy released during the combustion cycle then you are running 93 octane gasoline that is diluted with 10% ethanol.

And with running pure gasoline, I'm not absorbing 'water', which will further dilute the gasoline.

I also run 91 octane pure gasoline in my 56 and 64 and my supercharged Mercedes, because pure gas is better then ethanol/water diluted gasoline.

Pure gasoline is a win-win. Period.

I envy you guys who have real gas available. The only thing less than $7/gallon in AZ is E10-91.
