Soon when the C7 arrives will the base and GS C6 both be reffered to as just a C6 since both have the same engine. The Z06 has a different engine and the ZR1 has the supercharger that produces mad amounts of horsepower and are substanially different then the base and GS models.I like all the C6 models but do not understand the insults that narrow body base C6 car and wide body GS car owners give each other when both are basically the same car especially PERFORMACE wise!

Any Corvette made between 2005 and 2013 is a C6.
There can always be various models within a generation, or year for that matter.
C6 refers to the sixth generation of the Corvette.
C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6.............and soon C7.

Personally, I respect all generations and all models of vettes. I like some better than others, just like I prefer some colors more than others. IMO threads like this serve no purpose other than to instigate rivalry, but again that's just my opinion.

Dave, I know you try and post these witty threads but in all honesty this one makes no sense. The C7 has NOTHING to do with what the C6's are called. And since you are trying to maybe start something, your so called "base" coupe is actually called a C6 coupe, there is no "base" in it's name.

I already though they were C6s
But, my 200X Base GS C6 Z51 LS3 MN6 1LT A6 LS2 3LT won't know the difference. Did I explain that right, because I know having all that stuff in there helps identify the problem with my windshield wipers....

What I am trying to say will all the chatter about base, narrow, GS, Z51, ZR1, ZO6 ,1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 4LT ETC. be just grouped together as nothing special within the generation C6 because everything will be the WOW factor with the C7 being the MAIN FOCUS for the vette world. The C4'S seemed to be all grouped together as is the C5'S. As of now all C6 cars seem to be grouped in different levels and grades best worrst etc. when we know they are all just a C6 vette!

Hopefully the C7 is so gorgeous and hits the ball so far out of the park, that I won't care what anyone calls the C6 because I'll have sold mine for the 7!

All Corvettes built in the 2005 through 2013 model years will be known as "previous generation" Corvettes. I honestly don't understand the point you are trying to make. All models of these cars are C6 Corvettes, and I honestly don't understand how the arrival of the C7 would retroactively change that.

The first year will most likely be ONE model, a C7 in Coupe or Convertible. Much the same as the first year of the C6. I really don't see a Z06, GS, or ZR1 the first year of production.

Only the super-desirable ones. Seriously - kind of a silly question. Let's make it easier and call them "6th Generation Corvettes". The Camaro group was smart and got the "Gen" thing going. We can copy them and do the same - we'll always be better anyway since we're talking Corvettes (although I'd take a Yenko or Motion Camaro any day).

C6/GS Performance
Dave,Actually the GS does outperform the 'Base' Coupe in 0-60 times,1/4 mile times and speed, braking distance and on the skid pad. From GM Corvette info.

They want to sell more GS's that's why they put out the #'s the way they do.
My 1st outing with my coupe netted me quicker ETs & higher MPH's than advertised. It actually was at GS advertised #'s.
Gotta remember, they both carry the same exact drive train with the same exact HP/TQ #'s, so it'd be scientifically impossible for one to be quicker than the other, though I will give you braking & skid pad due to wider rubber & larger brakes, but my pal with a '10 GS told me after I let him drive my coupe that his 'seat o pants meter' felt no difference in the way my car handled & drove vs. his car.
And to answer Dave's kinda question like others mentioned, they're C6's Dave, that's it.

I actually don't understand why people are so averse to calling a 'regular' Corvette "base". Of course it's not in the name, I don't think any car has "base" in its name. But that doesn't mean there aren't "base" cars, ie cars that don't have any options, and Corvettes aren't any different.

The only time I see any need to clarify a generational model is when for instance I tell you about my "C2 convertible" or my 'C3 l88 coupe". In the c6 forum we describe our own cars the same way to quickly inform other c6 owners what we are talking about. " My 2010 narrow body vert" or my "gs coupe" when I am driving down the road and I see those headlights coming at me all I know is it's a c6.

It's gotten to the point where there are so many models out now that Base helps to identify beginners luck.
In the Corvette Black Book published each year since 1978, they distinguish the latest models this way...
Base Corvette Coupe
Base Corvette Convertible
Grand Sport Corvette Coupe
Grand Sport Corvette Convertible
Z06 Corvette
427 Corvette
ZR1 Corvette
I got a Base Coupe and quite happy w/it. I have no bone to pick with the others... I may even get one when I want one.
