I also agree the ricer cars tend to garner more attention and it just seems like they would end up cosmically being the ones with issues. At any rate, if you don't think you can control yourself...then try and control yourself a little bit...and get an Escort RD, too.
But when they do get pulled over, they cause a lot of rubber neckers.

I was pulled over for 70 in a 60 in Colorado. First thing the LEO looked for was a radar detector (once he verified his safety of course). I pulled over to a safe place off the road, had my license, proof of insurance and registration in my left hand which was on top of my steering wheel with my right one. My wife's hands were on the dash where it says Corvette, both windows were down. LEO asked me if I knew what I did wrong and I told him exactly what he confirmed a second later. LEO asked me why I was in a rush and I stated I lost my focus and I was not feeling good (I had stomach issues with cold sweat) and I was on the way to Walgreens (which I showed him in my NAV) and our hotel in Montrose. He gave me a warning and asked for me to "comment about my experience on Monday" by calling their department.

He said he didn't have his radar on until he came around a corner and saw me. He was in a regular LEO car. So yes if you speed you WILL eventually get caught, it is just a matter of when/where. Radar detectors are great tools as mentioned above for daydreamers, not fool proof though. Police are less likely to give you a break if the see a radar detector.

I agree on the cruise control!! Its amazing how fast these things will accelerate down an onramp!! Caught myself a few times well over the speed limit without realizing it!!

This also occurs if you aren't using cruise, you will creep up and be over the speed limit by too much before you know it.. These cars are so smooth at speed on decent pavement!

My speed is determined by my surroundings.. If I am in traffic I may set the cruise for 5 - 10 over but if the traffic is thin then no more than 5 over.. This is where the instant on types will get you and you have little if any warning no matter what kind of detector you have.. You are relying on the officer tracking someone ahead to setoff your detector and if there is no one then its you...

I have had a detector for over 20 years and it has paid for itself many times over.. I use it more for an indicator than a license to speed.. The best defense along with the detector is just paying attention to what's ahead of you.. if you see a large grouping of cars don't pull over and blow by them, there is a reason they are clumped up like that.. A lot of police officers, at least around here, don't really hide, they just park in the emergency crossover and pick people off as they go by. There are enough people too busy talking on the phone to notice them and they stay busy enough to need to work harder to get their numbers. There has been a lot of times I saw the cop car well before the detector went off..

The only two tickets I have gotten in the last 10 years were both laser and in minimal traffic.. not much you can do there.. Plus they were both under 10mph over so not too expensive..

As for the OP I don't know.. that sounds like a recipe for many tickets, the last being the bus ticket you need to get around.. Good Luck!!

If you don't have a road course, a track, or a few nice deserted roads in the woods nearby, you may need to consider not buying a sports car.
I live 5-6 hours away from the colsest road course or a decent 1/4 mile track, and it is very frustraiting for me to have to drive a corvette like a prius most of the time(not all the time), but it is either that or having a criminal record for reckless driving or street racing, which can affect your life in more ways than you can imagine. Will you be able to drive a car without speeding and still enjoy it? Do you have a place to drive it fast safely and legally? You have someting to think about.
Even though I have a radar detector I don't count on it much.

Why not get some of that aggression out of your system by taking your new GS to the track. Once you do that you'll find that street driving is just street driving and you'll save your real driving skills for the track. Honestly, I was very concerned when I bought my GS if I could control myself on the street. Taking it to the track gave me a whole different perspective on things and now I just tool along like an old man on the street. You don't want to risk your new joy by hot-*******.

If you want to drive fast, take it to a track. On a public roadway, a ticket might be the least of your problems. Slow down before you hurt yourself or someone else.

Get an Escort 9500ix then get the Escort LIVE if you have a IPhone get the ESCORT LIVE Ap (this what i have ) but i think it works with more smart phones out there.Besides the radar you can se on the map where the leos are and you can report to so that how the live works.it can detect red light cameras, speed traps, speed cameras ,it can detect false alarm and store them so no more the anoing false things and match more. This thing is kipeeng me alert when i get over the speed limit because has Gps to so the radio stops and the gps lady reminde you to slow down .Give this a try meybe will work for you CORVETTE Fellas .Peace and Drive Carefully.

OP Asked - Was it wise for a habitual speeder to buy a Corvette?
IMHO - Yes, you are an incredibly wise man. You are aware of who you are and what you needed to perfect the person you are. You apply the right tool to the right job. Corvette+Speed = wise choice.

Second question - Radar/Lidar??? I think your question is, should I buy Radar or Lidar???

IMHO - Yes, absolutely buy a radar detector.
No, don't waste your money on Lidar.

Why do I think Radar is absolutely necessary? Great around town with the local cops. It's also safety device because - A radar detector increases your awareness. To be the best habitual speeder, you need to be fully aware at all times.

Get a radar detector with GPS+speed alert. You can set it for a max speed, and it automatically sounds at that speed.

I have my radar detector set to EDIT: Now set to 80 MPH! The NC State highway max speed limit is 70MPH. 80+ on the Interstate and +15 over the speed limit elsewhere is considered reckless. I don't want to be reckless and jeopardize my life or someone else's life who didn't plan on encountering a reckless driver that day.

OP, what is South Carolina's reckless limit on the interstate? This is a VERY important number to be aware of and manage to. You don't want to be on the evening news...

Other great advice on this thread has been to take your car to a track. The other drivers at the track all singed up for the same thing, to go fast. No unwilling participants at the track, they all paid to be there, to go fast.

Cruise control on the highway, below the reckless limit.

For ultimate total control, be aware of your speed at all times. The more you are aware, the better of a driver you will be on the track and on the highway.

A good radar detector and laser jammers can help even the odds. You and your equipment must be perfect every time. The LEO only needs to be good or lucky once.

Depending on where you drive and how you drive a radar detector that is best for you can vary. Laser jammers however have only one good player, Laser Interceptor.

A good setup for detector and jammers will run about $1200 and the best setup will run to north of $3000. If you are in the Upstate I can show you some of the goodies.

That is the beauty of the Escort 9500. They learn the location and frequency of the false alarms, and then ignore them.

Detectors aren't a guarantee against tickets, because they don't give an advance warning against laser, but I have often picked up a laser warning because of a car ahead of me being "lit-up".

I still want that detector there to help me. My only tickets in recent years were when I forgot to plug it in.
