Ticket free for 4 years with my '08 vert and now 5 months and counting on my 427. No friggin way that I would put an ugly Ohio plate on the front of my beautiful '13 'vert. I'll pay the fine.

Maryland state police got me. Had an initial warning then the 60 dollar ticket. I knew it was the law. I willingly broke it. I paid. The end. This is pretty simple stuff---eddie

I would have faught that to the bitter end. Here in TX most traffic laws you must be "operating" a "motor vehicle" on a "public road". There are a few exception to that.

Cold day in hell before I put one on in NJ. I call bs on the added value to law enforcement relative to crimes solved as a direct result of them being not on a Vette. If there was universal evidence every state would require. They are a cash cow for vindictive Leo's and states.

Houston, TX. Got a ticket initially from speeding, but he tacked on the no front license place along with it. I paid it, although the judge said I just needed to show a picture with it on. It would have been a hassle to go back downtown and have another court date set. I think it was 70 bucks or so.

i haven't had front plates on several vehicles in the past. from my experience the city cops don't care. it's the state troopers that'll get you. the only time i put one on is on a road trip now. paid a ticket once for it (not with the vette). no biggie.

Several years ago plates from Tennessee and New York were very similar in color. A Rochester cop was in front me and kept looking in his rear view mirror at the front end of my C5. He pulled into a parking lot and came up right behind me with his lights flashing.
He gets out and asks for my license and registration. I asked why? He tells me because I don't have a plate on the front of my car. But officer I said sarcastically...in Tennessee we are only required to have a back plate...nothing in the front.
He goes to the back of the Vette and notices the Tennessee tag. Gives me back my license and registration and tells me to watch my speed.

I've had no front plate on my C6 ever since I picked up the car two weeks ago and haven't been hassled yet, even though I've seen quite a few police cars. I do have a Top Flight bracket in the trunk ready to go on the car but haven't done it yet since it's been colder than 60 degrees here since I got the car and the instructions do say to make sure it's above that temperature so the adhesive sticks. And yes, I do have a garage and really could just put it on in there, but I also thought I would enjoy driving the car for a few weeks without the plate since once the bracket goes on I won't be removing it so this is my only chance to drive the car the way it looks best.
Also, I have personalized plates and the front one is pretty bashed up from being 16 years old and going through a few winters too. So I ordered up a fresh set of plates and they'll be arriving in 6-8 weeks. So I'm hoping to go that long without getting a ticket, and for sure I will install the Top Flight bracket by then if I haven't done it sooner.

Pat, are the replacements still $100?

Very true! Then they look for other fines to tack on since they stopped you. In Utah it is a secondary offense so they must pull you over for something else first. However I must say Utah LEO's and the UHP are pretty cool as I only met one idiot in 14 years. He wanted to give me a ticket for no front plate on my new 05 CTS V. The city of Ogden can be pitiful at times. The latest stop is to pull you over if you don't move over when passing a cop parked on the side. I asked him if he wanted me to move in front of an 18 wheeler instead (that was in the left lane) and I did give him as much room as possible.

This pissed me off so bad. I was heading to Ocean City Maryland on a Friday afternoon to go to the beach for the weekend, got a ticket on Friday because of no front tag (75.00) I told the state boy what my situation was because i just washed the car and forgot to put the tag back on and damn if they didn't pull me over on the way home on Sunday and give me another (75.00) ticket. what the hell, i can understand though because the state of Maryland is broke.....I drove a yellow 2002 for 5 years and never had a problem, bought a red one and bam..

Latest Update On Reasons for Front Plate:
It's not just the states going broke. Now, we have a new wrinkle: homeland security. Yes. those tax dollars to expand homeland security. They go to state police to now put new cameras in the trunk of their cars to supposedly identify potential terrorist cars by license plate auto-fed into computers via the new cameras.
Feel better now? I won't say anything about marathons, I promise.

Never gotten a citation for not having one but then again I am usually on the giving end of a citation. I can tell you though that through 22 years of doing this job I have never issued one for no front plate and don't plan too. I don't have one so I am certainly not issuing one to someone that does not have one either. Fair is fair.
