Default shipping a car

I am looking at purchasing this car In OR. and I need to have it shipped to me in NC. Any suggestions on a Good shipping Company to do this for me at a reasonable price?

I used Randy at mrautoshipper.com from Vegas to Dallas. Reasonable (after matching lower price), timely and professional. Would use again.

As you may already know, most "shippers" are actually brokers, they have no trucks of their own. They will pair you with a shipper and charge you about $100 (the cost you pay up front).

The balance is paid in person to the actual carrier which is the real cost of shipping your vehicle. Establish a relationship with the shipper so you can save on broker's fees in the future.

When they enter your bid into the system, there is a rating system which helps guide the broker as to the shipper's reliability.

A reputable broker will look for a shipper with the best rating. A less scrupulous broker might choose a less reliable shipper allowing him to save money thereby offering you a more competitive price.

Whichever broker you use, you'll have to stipulate that you want a highly rated shipper.

If you go with an enclosed carrier, youll have less to worry about.

Montway has good rates.

I know of another broker who is even cheaper. I can pm his number to you if youre interested.

.
I know of at least one case where a major shipper with trucks actually went the route of brokering out a deal. May not be the first or last time it happens but it was very unsatisfactory to the customer. Choose wisely, and cost may not be the sole determinant.

Many on this forum have been satisfied with Intercity or Reliable, I've used both and they are top notch! Whatever you do make sure it is in an enclosed carrier!! Good luck...Dan

Recommend FedEx (they are a given) which goes as Passport Transport for their car shipping (enclosed trucks). I will be using (again) when I ship MR BLU from Reston Va to Jupiter FL

Are you buying from an individual or dealer? If a dealer, ask them if they would ship on one of the "auction" trucks to your local auction house. That will save you a few dollars.

As far as enclosed vs. open trailer.. I shipped mine open trailer and I had no issues. It is insured and they take a report of the car pre-load and un-load, plus you can ask the person you are buying it from to take photo's too.

Open saves $$.

From Calif. to La. cost me $700. It would have cost me $600 from Indiana to LA., but only $200 if I shipped on the "auction" truck and pick it up at the auction house.

How about a one way airline ticket to Or. and drive it back home yourself. That is the only way to go.

Unfortunately, all the companies above mentioned dont run every US route. And if you do call on a specific company to do it you will be charged a substantial amount for them to go off their normal routes. Oregon to North Carolina for sure wont be an easy phone call to just anyone. It depends on if there will be enough vehicles worth a driver to run that route, I see 3 in Oregon going to NC. Open carrier cost between $900 and $1000 and enclosed prices at $1575.

If you need help let me know.

This would get my vote as well. It would be great "bonding time" for you and your new car too. If you are careful and plan appropriately you should be able to handle any inclement weather.

I have used Intercity Lines. Very professional and seemed reasonable. Ohio to Boston was $700.

Ask the broker what a good price is. Because the trucker puts together loads from a internet board he reads, when he fills the truck to make his money he informs all the brokers that he'll take those jobs. If you go to low he will skip over you and slot a higher paying customer for his truck. Just listen to your brokers advice, he only gets around 100 bucks off each deal he puts together anyway. Most of it goes to the trucker.

Another question is closed or open?

Thanx guy's for all the replies. This route is a difficult one it looks like. I have spoken to the Chevy Dealer I am purchasing the car from and he has given me the name of a carrier he has used in the past to ship a chevy truck to NC. It will be outside, probably around $950. I was wondering......when I see the New car trailers loaded with new cars they all have this white plastic on the hoods and fenders for protection I assume. Should I / can I purchase this plastic and ask the dealer to install this before the trip? Any Ideas would be very helpful.
