Default Low Beam Head Light issue (Merged)

Officials Probe Corvette Headlamp Problem
Fri, 05/10/2013 - 8:44am

DETROIT (AP) -- U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating complaints that the low-beam headlights can go dark without warning on some Chevrolet Corvettes.

The probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers more than 103,000 Corvettes from the 2005 through 2007 model years.

The agency says it has gotten 30 complaints from owners about low-beam headlight failure. No crashes or injuries have been reported. But in one case a driver ran over a discarded tire while trying to pull off the road.

The high-beam headlights and fog lights keep working even if the low beams fail. But the agency says driving with the high beams all the time can harm vision of oncoming drivers.

Investigators will check into how often the problem happens and decide if a recall is needed.

I don't think this will turn into a recall but it will be interesting to follow. What amazed me was that there were 103,000 Corvettes in those three years....it would take so much longer to get to that number at today's sales pace. The good old days of 35,000 per year.

It will be interesting to see what caused the failure. somehow I'm guessing GM didn't fix that problem later on based on other items they won't fix.

IMO it should be a recall though since you usually need lights for a reason.

My reasoning is that they are saying '05 through '07 but I don't think anything has changed on the headlights since the introduction of the C6.

Default C6 Headlight Recall

A friend of mine heard today on the radio that GM was recalling the headlights on some of the C6's and he specifically heard 2007's. has anyone else heard this....do we know why?

My '07 has those little spider cracks in both headlights and I have been fighting with them over it being covered under warranty for 2 years.

Would love to know more!!!

Default operator error

32 outta 100,000+ C6's

I think its twisting the light stalk accidentally while screwing around with fogs, high beams or auto settings:
THAT was MY problem when its happened to me

Here you go with out a link:

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into 103,374 Chevrolet Corvette models built between 2005 and 2007. The administration is currently looking into a headlight issue after receiving 30 complaints from owners saying that the vehicle abruptly lost both low beams. Demonstrating its uncanny affinity for the obvious, NHTSA said, "The loss of illumination impairs the driver's ability to see the roadway." Such a condition could lead to a crash.

Some of the complaints state that the problem is intermittent, while others say the issue only began after driving over an object in the road. Still others say the low beams return after the vehicle has been parked for some time. Both high-beams and fog lights remain functional in every case, however.

Damn it!
This is the faulty fuse block issue... I already repaired mine.
A new fuse block would be SWEET! Though.

New headlights would be even better!
Mine are showing tiny little spider webs in the plastic.

Thirty two complaints and it's a major problem. Apparently were not complaining enough about the check air bag light issue. Maybe an air bag that doesn't work is not a serious problem. If you have the air bag light problem like so many of use do you should let NHTSA know about it. I have done it several times and plan on doing it again.

There have been many threads on this subject. The problem usually ends up in the fuse panel under the hood, where the copper lead fails. It requires repair or replacement of the fuse panel.

I guess the NHTSA doesn't think a harmonic balancer coming off on the highway isn't dangerous...just saying...

I think we should start a write-in campaign about the seat rocking issue. It is widespread, and I see it as a safety problem.
