Default Was 2008 a bad year for vettes.

Found a great deal on a 2008 vette. One owner, 5800 miles, excellent condition and clean car fax. Set to buy until someone said that the 2008 have many problems. Looking for comments.

Only problem I had with my 2008 coupe was the minor squeeking noise from the roof. I lubricated the weatherstripping above the windshield and in the 2 receptacles for the roof, but the noise soon came back.

GM and my dealer gave me too many incentives to move up to a 2012.

Default 2008 Vette

I sure hope that the 2008 Vettes didn't have special problems as I am looking for one.

Almost 15K miles on the clock and no problems. There are a lot of '08's out there, if there were problems you would hear about them right here.

I haven't heard of any problems unique to '08s. If anything, the '08s are considered to be desirable since they're the first models with the LS3 engine, faux carbon fiber center console bezel, and optional NPP dual-mode exhaust.

My 08 is my 4th vet and without a doubt the best so far. Great car.

08 have some common issues that have been in the C5 and previous C6 models.

But nothing that I would consider major mechanically. The 05 has the weak differential.

The LS3 motor is great and does not suffer from the LS7 problems.

Better steering response and the LS3 engine make for a good year.

Run flat tires, roof latch noise window cowl design and poor seats are the usual complaints. The transmission can be notchy going into second but is a stout tranny. The axle nuts can be lose but is a easy fix. Proper differential oil takes care of the clutch pack grinding.

The above account for the vast majority of Forum complaints.

The Ranger method for keeping the clutch oil clean is easy fix too.

Great car for handling looks and power for the $$.

I have not heard of any engine problems while keeping the car stock.

I'm fairly certain that 2008 models had no unique problems that wasn't a problem on other years. Earlier coupes had problems with the roof separating and that had a recall. 05's had some column lock issues where the wheel would lock up. All models since 1997 are prone to having the harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley separate as it is a two piece design. No major problems that should keep someone from buying a c6. Was this "someone" a corvette owner or just some random guy?

the only problem that car might have is the fact that somebody didn't drive it................I looked at a low mileage C6 and owner said for a while it was leaking oil, shop said it leaks oil cause u don't drive it, something about the gaskets

My fully loaded manual 2008 4lt was one of the first off the line and the full service history entails... the roof panel latches being replaced.

I also have a little oil seepage, but no drips on the floor. Debating on whether or not to bother with that.

Good 'nuff for me.

Whoever told you that was mistaken. No issues with the 2008 that weren't on other year Vettes. The roof latch issue being the main one.

Over 100K on my '08 and no problems that were unique to that year other than the glove box latch which affected a small amount of cars with the titanium interior.
