GS wheels vs Cup wheels
I really love the new 6oth anniversary Cup wheels.
From what I can tell they are a bit heavier than the GS wheels.
About 2 lbs each for the front wheels and about 2.5 lbs each for the rear. These numbers may be slightly off but are pretty close. Another difference is the wheel sizes. The GS is 18/19 and the Cups are 19/20.
I want to run the Cup wheels with NON run flat tires on my GS. I'm thinking that the lighter weight of the non run flat tire would perhaps balance out the additional weight of the wheel, at least make it pretty close.
So, do you think I will notice much if any difference in ride quality, performance, etc. going to this format?
I realize that each 1 lb of wheel weight turns into 10 lbs of virtual weight when the car is going. But what I'm not educated enough about is how this additional weight affects something with 436 bhp.
Of course the weights I mentioned were in reference to the powder coated GS wheel and not the much heavier chromed version.
Thanks for your help.

if you like the cup wheels, get them. You aren't gonna feel what 2 lbs per wheel is gonna do. And chrome is about a quarter of a pound per wheel

I think the chrome GS wheel, from what I've gathered on this site and the web, adds about 1.25 lbs per wheel. But you're right I guess that's not a lot of weight. The virtual weight when moving translates into 50 lbs. But, I don't know what that really means as far as performance is concerned. Is it like carrying an additional 50 lbs in the car or what?

I have them on my vert. There is no appreciable difference in in handling. Mine actually improved as I sh!tcanned the GY gen 2 for Michelin ZPs. Bear in mind, ZPs are the only tires made in OEM sizes to fit cups, so your plan to run non-RFs isn't going to work unless to go with a non-OEM size. Ask me how I know.....

Mine actually felt lighter than the oem chrome wheel pkg. Probably the difference in the goodyear rf's vs ps2 rf's... I know it feels alot less heavy in the steering wheel!

Are you sure? I couldn't find a 20-inch Nitto in 345 that would fit on the cup wheels.

You basically have two choices in a non run flat. Either Nitto invos or pirelli Pzeros. The fronts will be the same as the Michelin ZPs at 285 30 19 and the rears will be a 345 25 20. The nittos run narrow for their size so they about the same widths as the Michelin 335 25 20s. The pirellis will be a hair wider. We sell them all if you need a set.

Since I'd weighed the wheels, I knew that the spiders were a little lighter...so I looked up the tire weights. PS2s are a couple pounds per tire lighter than the Bridgestones, even in the 19/20 versus 18/19 sizes. So that might be true with the Goodyears also.

I always thought the grand sport wheels were the nicest stock corvette wheel out there until i saw the cup wheels. unless your going to be spending a lot of time at the track who really cares about the extra pound or two. Get the cup wheels just because they are HOT!
