Default Base vs Z51 Rear Piston Question

I was looking through threads that compare base vs. Z51 brake systems, and they mention that the rear piston on a base brake system is larger than Z51.

Does anyone know if there was a reason to go with a smaller piston on Z51? Was it just to save cost, and if so might I get some benefit from the larger rear piston from Z51 rotor/pad/bracket changover from a base car over a stock Z51 brake setup?

The smaller piston was used to keep the desired brake bias and braking force on the larger rotor of the Z51.

Would it be worth the extra cost to get rear Z51 rear calipers in order to get the proper bias?

Would the rear pads wear out quickly if I leave it with the base rear calipers?

Since the front brakes do about 80% of the work and the J55 rotors used on the Z51 and F55 options only gain about 3% more effective swept area, there is little advantage to swap from base brakes. If stopping distance is important, tires play a bigger part than rotor size. If it's just bling, it's a personal thing.

I installed the Z51 brackets, rotors and GM ceramic pads on my base coupe over three years ago with no issues other than my wheels stay noticeably cleaner.

Your results may vary.
