Default OnStar Unsticky Situation

WTH?! I've had my GS Vert for just over a month and my OnStar box keeps falling off the windshield. Today makes the 3rd time after 2 dealer fixes. Is anyone else having this problem?

I WISH the d@mn thing would have fallen off 5 years ago. I also wish they hadn't charged me for the "FREE" OnStar too.

Ditto XM.

Now, this is one of those rare firsts.

Off to the dealer again you go, for the 3rd & hopefully last time.

Is the box falling off the little plastic hooks on the windshield, or are the hooks themselves falling away from the glass?

If the box is falling off the hooks, you can probably re-attach it by placing it on the hooks and sliding about 3/4" to the left. It may take a firm shove to do this, I actually removed my box and had to place a wooden dowel against it and give it a good smack the other direction with a mallet. Best done on a warm day, to avoid cracking the w/s or the plastic hooks.

Pull it off and throw it out.

You're welcome.

Previous owner probably got tired of being followed and removed it and apparently did not do a good job of reinstalling it when he sold it.

On mine, the adhesive would separate from the windshield when it was hot out. Took it to the dealer and they had a service bulletin on it, so it must not be an uncommon problem. They used a different adhesive and I haven't had a problem since.

No, OnStar and XM came FREE with my '08 Coupe 1LT. But nothing is free. Never renewed either one after the FREE initial trial periods. NEVER gave either my credit card. After 3-5 years they quit sending letters & emails.

If I wanted "extras" I would order and pay for them.

Haven't had the problem since the dealer fixed it with different adhesive. Prior to that it had been fixed twice.

I hung my radar detector on the box with some 3M "Dual Lock". Maybe I shouldn't have.

On Star's a trip, and fortunately my 06' Vette didn't come with it. My daily 09' Pontiac did though, and was constantly reminded by the dealer when taking delivery, to push the blue button to activate, but never did. Several phone calls from the dealer customer service followed with more reminders to activate, but again never did. Then reminders were coming through the cars stereo system, and that did it. Figured out how to disable it, and was gone for good. I never could care less about On Star, and never payed for it. Refuse to have crap like this forced on me.

My 06 came with it and I have kept it activated ever since. I like it, but to each his own.

I might add, this is a brand new 2013! I am so frustrated and am ready to just throw that box out the window! Maybe 3rd time will be a charm...

Your instincts are correct.
  1. Lower window.
  2. Throw out.
  3. Raise window.
  4. Look for new dealer.

GM service bulletin PI009A Onstar antenna becomes loose detached from windshield.

Just noticed it applies to 2010 only.

May want to mention it to dealership anyways.
