Go with the GS. You won't be driving in bad weather, so don't worry about the "wide tires". When you get ready to sell, it will be easier to sell the GS(meaning you will get more money for it) then a stripped base C6. 2/3rds of new Corvettes produced/sold are Grand Sports and most C6's are equipped with higher trim levels. That's what people are buying new, so it stands to reason, that's what people will be buying used.

As far as tires, you can expect 12,000 to 15,000 miles from the OE Goodyears on the GS. I have the Bridgestones on my Z06 and have put 10,500 miles on them and still have 8/32" tread left(down from 10/32" when new). My Bridgestone's(run flats) cost less then the Goodyear runflats that come on a base C6. Even though both the base and the GS have the LS3 engine, gas mileage is slightly less with the GS. The GS has a more aggressive(lower) gearing(both the manual and the auto) then the base C6, which does use a little more gas. But, only driving the car 4,000 miles annually, it doesn't add up to that much.

PS- the GS has 275mm(10.8") wide front tires. The Escalade has 285mm(11.2") wide front tires. You don't see Cadillac telling it's Escalade owners not to drive in rainy weather because of the "wide" tires.

There were 3,467 1956 Corvettes built and 6,339 1957 Corvettes built. Even though almost twice as many 57's were built vs 56's, the 57's have always demanded a higher price.

Lower production numbers do not always cause a car to be more "rare", thus raising resell prices, then another car.

It sounds like you like the looks of the base coupe better to start with. The savings are a bonus., Since you won't be tracking the car, I would buy the base coupe. You really can't go wrong either way.

This makes absolute zero sense. You cant compare that. hahahah Why are you trying to?

Depth, compound, tread design.....those things matter, not just how wide.

My Durango tires are wider than my Corvettes tires so must be that means they are made to go around corners fast...right? By your thought process......yes.

I tossed up looking for a used Z51, GS or Z06 instead of my 08 Coupe.... but I didn't want to get into the higher maintenance cost with tires and brakes. I drag race my cars frequently and in stock trim the Eagle F1 runflats are adequate. Once I am above stock power level I will end up buying drag radials anyway.

I can throw on a set of Z51 sways for $190 to improve handling feel and my A6 was ordered with the GU2 2.73 final drive ratio so I have the Z51/GS rear end already.

Drag radials for the base C6 > GS tires as far as drag racing is concerned.

Put some real gears in that baby too.... ya lowjo.

I wanted as much "Corvette" as I could get and keep the removable roof. Luv the GS MN 6, 3 LT.

The bad part is I just only hit 1000 miles today, so 500 more before I drop the oil and go "hammer down"!!

A base Vette would be just fine. Best motor on the planet , can't go wrong.

I prefer Base Coupe. Looks better with the clean, sleek lines.

The C7 looks to be going to the narrow body look... no fender/wheel well lip bulges and scoops front and rear. The sleek side look is on the way.

Actually, I must disagree with the last part of the above statement. Nice C5s are regularly selling for above 20K and a super nice garage queen has sold recently for above 30K on this forum.

To the basic question asked by the OP, since I've had three base coupes (all 3LT) and now have a GS coupe (also 3LT), my recommendation would be to go with the GS. There are many nice features to the 3LT so that is what I would want in either car, and the GS has only been available since 2010 so there are far fewer GS's on the road overall.

The debut of the 283 c.i. engine in the '57 plays a big part in that. One of the all time Great small blocks.
Fuel injection and a 4-speed trans. was available for the first time.

The '55 and '56 had the 265. Much less desirable engine. Only available with the 3-speed or Powerglide as an option.

Many times i have seen an engine to be the deciding factor in a collectable cars worth.

i know, i know, i'll get a lot of flack for being here due to the posted date all this went down. but, i stumbled upon this after looking for a n.r.b. grand sport after buying my n.r.b. 2lt coupe (013) i bought the car before doing my homework on the g.s. now i'm seriuosly thinking of trading the car in for the g.s. after reading some of the messages on this thread i'm not so sure now. i mean my car has the dual mode exhaust and the bigger drilled brakes, the zr1 spoiler and the auto paddle shift, which i really like. the price was great so it'll be paid off in two months, not so if i buy the g.s. now i'm really in a brain freeze as to what i should do. maybe wait like the other guy posted and take a look at the c7 and come to a decision whether to trade up for one of them.

If I had to choose it would be th GS because I like the way it looks.The brakes and wheels are nice also if the GS has mag ride thats the way to go. I regret not waiting to find out the mag ride came with ptm on zo6 models would have cost as much as my 3lz with chrome spyders.

Well, just to complete the thread I started in October, on Monday, 2/18, Presidents Day, I purchased a '13 Cyber Gray 3LT MN6 Grand Sport, with black wheels and badges, ZR1 Spoiler and Red Calipers. Traded my '04 Mag Red Corvette Coupe with 31,000 miles getting $19,500 on the trade.

Now, just looking forward to some nice weather so I can put some miles on this baby.

2013 GS 3LT is my new daily driver, traded my 2002 C5 for it. Wouldn't go back. I am however always worried when I'm at work or a friends house leaving it outside
