GS vs Z06 vs ZR1 [video]
A German car magazine took a Corvette ZR1, Z06 and Grand Sport around the Hockenheim (the short version) track. You get to see the laps and the lap times. The ZR1 is just barely faster than a 911 GT2 RS and the Z06 is very fast as well. The video ends with a 0-331-0 kph test using the ZR1.
Here's a still from the video with the lap times:

What is even more impressive is that the ZR1 is just below 2 cars that are pretty much over the top race cars.
Amazing what you can buy off the showroom floor, but of course the ZR1/Z06s tires, PTM, and power:weight are just unmatched.

It's amazing with the newer Z06 (Z07 package) what the above you mentioned did to the car and really closed the Gap. Just proves the age old point on the track, HP is just one factor in the picture. Tires, weight, suspension set up all dominate. The ZR1 has 138 more HP than the Z06, yet look how close the are. That's no knock on the ZR1 either, I love the car .

Yeah, but you can take the roof off the GS and go topless! Woo Hoo! I don't plan on racing against any of those cars in the list, so being a few seconds slower makes no difference to me. Any modern Corvette will still out-perform 99% of the vehicles on the road.

The 2010 Viper ACR was only .56 behind the Apollo and beat the the RS at Nurburgring, Corvette isn't even the top dog in it's own backyard! The new '13 Viper will be by far the best bang for the buck supercar on the market when it arrives in a few months!!

When the C7 ZR1 is released (sometime down the road), I'm guessing it will spank the Viper's butt. So they should enjoy top dog honors while they last.

It very well may otown but they haven't proved they can yet! The 2010 Viper ran last Sept. on OEM tires, the ZR1 ran last june on super slicks and was SEVEN seconds slower! The aero on the Viper for a road course is set up perfectly which is why it only tops out at 182, the ZR will eclipse 200 b/c it does not have near the downforce! Give the Viper its due, it is a killer car!

The problem with the vipers though is there straight base line racecars. Hell the nav in them was the same as in my jeep about 4 inches wide LOL. There is no comfort or options on them. The ZR1 and Z06 have Nice nav,Tons of interior options and the vipers are all just blah and feel cheap inside to me. Not to mention the side pipes that burn your leg everytime you get out.

I recall other road course comparison tests where the Z06 bested the ZR1. There are differences between models to be sure but all stock Corvettes are fairly track capable cars (and can be made even more capable). Considering Corvette performance, reliability, price and the wealth of modification options it's easy to see Corvette's appeal and why the Corvette can compete with the best of them. The ZR1 is still what I'd consider to be an expensive car but compared to the Gumpert Apollo the ZR1 can be had for 'beer money.' I've had some firsthand exposure to the Gumpert Apollo....the fact that a stock Corvette costing a fraction of its cost can be within a second or so of the Apollo's lap time is amazing.

I agree with you M95, the "old" Viper interior is way outdated and sparse but don't get too ahead of yourself with the Vette either (and by the way I own a new 427 60th). Even though it is better than the old Viper it also is a bit "cheap" and the electronics as seen by all the complaints on this forum aren't the greatest! I am only backing the Viper b/c I've owned them, they are truly bas *** track cars and a drivers car, anyone who has driven one will tell you the same thing! To Wayne O, I remember when a very wealthy member at a certain track backed that car into the guardrail even though the Apollo co-pilot was telling him to back it down, his ego got the best of him and his tail was wagging between his legs!! LOL

LFZ I am not a tire expert and will take your word for it, wikipedia hints the ZR1 ran a different tire, google nurburgring times! I can't attach from work, filters!!

the new viper is,for lack of a better term, childish looking. If both the new gen and previous gen where equal performance wise,I"ll take the previous.(I hope I don't feel the same with the new vette)
