Default for those that have had C5Z06 and a C6

so in the process of selling my 07LMB Z06 and want to know what others who have had a C5Z06 and a C6 thought of these cars. I am selling the Z because I need to get a car I can drive for customer visits. My daughter got her license a while back and is using my daily driver to get to school and such so I need a car to drive daily. Having a 50k car in the garage that I hardly drive and needing a second car makes no fiscal sense to me anymore. Car has been fun but I need to move on.

Bottom line is that I will take half the money to buy a BMW and the other half for a vette. Does the regular C6 have comprable performance to a C5 Z06? I am NOT taking the car to a track dragstrip etc. Just want a nice fast great handling car I dont need a race car honestly.

Also looking for trades, a manual C6 thats about 23-25k and cash.

From what I've read the "base" C6, especially a LS3 with the Z51 performance option, performs similiar to a C5 Z06. However, do you think you can get $50,000.00 for your 07 Z06 C6? I would think $44,000.00 would be high book on a private sale. You should be able to buy a 2005 C6 coupe in very good condition for $25,000.00 which would leave you $19,000.00 for a used BMW. Sounds like you might want to consider a very good 2004 C5 coupe for $21,000.00 which would leave $23,000.00 for a used BMW, or better yet a 2003 C5 coupe for $19,000.00 which will leave you $25,000.00 for a half-way decent used. BMW.

I remember reading that the C6 with Z51 option was designed to meet the performance of a C5Z06. Maybe someone with more knowledge can confirm this? I will try to find the link for you.
Here is the link:

Yes, they are very close. In fact, the difference between my '02 Z06 and '05 Z51 MN6 coupe was so slight as to be insignificant (at least in street driving). The '08 and later C6 are even better, of course.

One thing you'll notice right off is that the C6 coupe is much quieter than the C5 Z06.

The quieter it is, the less appealing.

I've had both. While the C6 is nicer overall, the Z was more fun to drive.

ill have a little extra cash so should be no problem buying 2 cars for 25,26 or 27k. As far as the price its what the buyer is willing to pay. i am in no particular hurry in fact i may keep if if i dont get my price. When i went looking for this car last year I used KBB, eBay, Cars.com etc to get a "idea" where the market was. after driving all over NC sc va and Ga looking at cars that were modified and frankly beat on i didnt want to buy a car like that. I wanted a stock unmolested LMB ZO6. I looked for 6 months and really never found one so I was going to finally settle on black but never could find one either that was unmolested. This one came up and the seller wouldnt budge on the price and was like 2k over what i wanted to spend or thought I should spend from my "research" Then my wife said how many weekends and time and gas have you spent. I found one in NH for my price but figure in 1000 for transport and a plane ticket to inspect I was right at the price of the one locally. So the wife said you may be over paying a little but its exactly what you want. In my mind the person that eventually buys this car will be the same as me. Someone that wants a LMB Z06 that has not been beat to hell. Did I pay a little too much to get the exact car I wanted? Probably. Do I care? No life is too short to look for 6 months to try and save 2k. In hindsight if I would have been a little more flexiable in price I could have had one 6 months sooner.

My car has 15k miles is all stock and there are plenty of them for sale at 48k+. maybe not here on the forum but all over.

so since I am not a huge fan of the styling of the C5Z06(dont like the fixed roof style and pop up headlights) I will be looking at the C6 as performance seems to be the same. i could deal with the c5 fastback buy may as well get a C6 then.

You'll miss the updated interior as well.

I still have and enjoy my C5. Not sure I could go back to it after having a C6 though.

Yes the goal of the C6 with Z51 was C5 Z06 performance, that's why I have a C6 w/Z51. Other than horsepower you will find it's street handling similar to your Z06. To help get the liveliness of the C5 Z06 I added Pfadt sport adjustable shocks, and poly anti-roll bar bushings. You might miss the brake feel so I'd start with stainless steel lines to firm up the stock brakes but you will need aftermarket wheels or spacers if you want a BBK.

I had one of the first C6's out - a 2005 Z51 six speed. I had two very good friends who both had modded Z06s with around 380hp at the rear wheels. The Z's feel faster, but are almost a dead heat even with the mods up until about 80 mph or so, then they start pulling away from the LS2 very gradually. But the difference is insignificant, and that was with mods.

I also did have a LS3 and I would have put my money on that car all day long against a stock or near stock Z.

But let me repeat-the Z06 does have a more raw feel and you won't think the C6 is as fast as it is unless you get a newer LS3.

Plenty of guys use the c6 as a daily driver.. I don't understand selling a car because you love it so much?

To answer your question I've had a c5 zo6 for 60k miles and a z51 m6 ls3 for 54k miles. The c6 is the better daily driver and the roof comes off.

The C5 Z06 is more raw and fun.

Although my suggestion stands to keep you c6 zo6 I might suggest just leasing a 2012 Malibu for zero down 140 a month for 36 months otherwise check out swap a lease ..pick out the mileage you need per month and take over various leases.

Many nice midsize sedans for between 200 to 300 a month with 2k miles or more a month available. The cars under warranty and the leases are under 2 years for the most part if you shop it..

Keep the C6 z06 you have and consider my suggestion.

Never sell a car you love just because its so nice you don't want to use it.

At 53 years old and the father of a severly handicapped child the one thing I learned in life is never let the things (even a beautiful c6 z06) own you. On nice days where you know you are parking.....etc...just use the c6 z06 and on the days your going into areas where you think your vehicle wouldn't be safe when you leave it....Just take the subsidized lease vehicle. My suggestion is to reward yourself for all your hard work. Enjoy that beautiful C6 Z06 and keep it.

Hell around here you can get a subaru legacy with leather, sunroof and awd for 240 a month no money down for 24 months brand new if you need inclement weather vehicles..(otherwise shop swap a lease as tons of guys and gals have leased vehicles that they don't use and need to get out of so they subsidize the lease for the remaining term. The original owner is still on the hook for the vehicle if you don't pay so with the warranty you can shop with confidence that the vehicle is fine...If you only need 12k miles a year again swap a lease offers those on short term subsidized leases too...

It really doesn't make sense to buy a c6 z51 or a c5 z06 for fun and then a used bimmer for daily use.. IMO the service on the german brands can be quite expensive ...more so than a vette for sure...(double the labor and parts rates on the german brands)

HTH and good luck deciding.

I don't miss my C5 Z at all. I thought I would, but I don't. The first time I got behind the wheel of this baby it was all over for me. Granted, it's a 427 and not a regular C6, but it's better in almost every way you can name. Only thing I miss is the massive trunk space in the C5 Z compared to the very tiny space in the 6. But other than that........TRADE IT!!

jerrivette interstingly I am 53 as well and have a very handicapped 26 year old son. I have restored a bunch of 442's but in the end its just a car. I sold my 442 last year because it just sat in the garage because i never wanted to drive it someplace and have some come out and f with the paint. Now I feel the same way with the vette I always have to plan ahead where I can park it because people just dont care. The end of the day a 50k car is not needed by me. I planned on only keeping it for a year or 2 50k is just too much for a car for me and a playtoy to boot. I need a car i can fit 5 people into the vette doent work for that. I sold my 442 for 35 k last year and wanted a vette i had a 71 back in 81. Thought about a 69-70 big block but then it would just sit i wanted something I could drive for 200 miles to a customer. I didnt even know what a Z06 was. My dad died last year and I had some extra money from him and put a budget of 40K but couldnt get a Z06 for that. Wifey told me to spend the extra money so I bought the Z. Now I need a driver, my daughter took mine, my wife has a peice of crap minivan and I actually feel bad want to get her something decent like a traverse to drive. I am selling my vette, suburban and the minivan looking at about 60k or so for all 3 and then put another 10k down and get 3 decent cars. At least thats my plan. Honestly if i had a LMB C6 06 with 80k miles it instead of the Z it really wouldnt matter to me. Still a beautiful car either way I cant drive the z to its potential where i live. I can buy my wife a car and my BMW cash right now if I want but I got a kid going to college in 10 months so I am liquidating.

As far a loving it, I loved my 442 because I restored it from just about scratch. This is just a really nice fast modern car i spent 50k on. I like it a real lot but dont love it i have had a lot of muscle cars over the years and they come and go.

I totally respect where your coming from. The c6 coupe that I have is a wonderful vehicle as was the c5 z06.

Taking care of your wife and your child's needs first always come first in my book. Best of luck and now in hindsight you can enjoy telling the story how you owned a c6 z06 and it was a bad @ss ride...and even more so how you love your family, enjoyed the Z06 and moved on to give your loved ones an even better life.

I totally get that.

Having said that if you enjoy taking the roof off and still would enjoy the corvette you can't go wrong with the C6 coupe...

If your not into driving with the roof off? you can shave a few bucks and get a C5 Z06.. I always enjoyed driving mine.

Daily driver c6 coupe..weekend toy with roof off C6 coupe...

Raw racecar like driving experience...c5 z06...

Test drive both and decide for yourself.

good luck and in just our short conversation here...I can certainly tell your a great father ..... and a good man.

As much as I loved my c5z....... I cannot see myself going back from my current c6z nor could I go to a base c6...... I would look into 2008 cts..... Can find them in the low to mid 20s all day long.......... For me, if its not my c6z, then I will not own a corvette........well, a ZR1 of course
