Default 05 Corvette Shuts Down

I bought a 2005 C6 with 34,000 miles. I drove it for around 1,500 miles, and the car now shuts down at anytime, while driving. Dangerous and unsafe. I saw the posting from a C6 owner with the same scenario and was wondering how he corrected his. I get a P0601 code when I ran a diagnostic test. OBDII. From what I read here in this forum, the PCM goes bad and needs replacement. Any other possibilities for this error code?

Do you have a service manual?

My 2005 manual shows P0601 as Transmission Control Module Read only Memory.....
and also
Engine Controls P0601 Control Module Read only Memory.

Is only this one code set?

Some other co-member may need to join into this thread.

But yes, it seems the TCM or ECM will need to be replaced and programmed.

A few months back there was a thread about the engine shutting down and the p0601 code being read. (I'd post a link but don't know how on an i-phone, the thread title is "error readout: reduced engine power"). In that case he had to replace the PCM, turned out his battery had leaked and over time had ruined the PCM. So definitely that code and the engine shutting down may mean the PCM is shot. But starting with checking connections is good advice.

Is your car the 4 spd. auto or 6 spd. manual?

Lots of other possibilities. First, the 2005 Corvette doesn't have a PCM. It's called an Engine Control Module (ECM). For that year and model, error code P0601 indicates a checksum error in the memory of EITHER the ECM or TCM (Transmission Control Module). There should be another code to further identify the specific module that has the problem.

But since you say the engine shuts off while driving, that would certainly make the ECM the more likely culprit. Maybe you need a new ECM but it might also be just a dirty connector or even a bad battery. If there are no other symptoms, the first thing to check is all the electrical connections to the ECM.

Thanks to all you guys for your help. I think I'll start with the battery, not just the terminal, but the size. When I purchased this vette, the dealer replaced the battery. It may not be the correct size. You guys inlighten me. One of the times the vehicle shut off, the voltage was at 12.9, it's usually at 14+. Wonder if they put the correct size battery?? It's an A/C Delco, I think a 550... Raining outside right now, or I would confirm.
What kind and size battery should I have in this 05 Coupe?
I have an automatic transmission, and the only code I receive is the P0601.
Again, Thanks to all of you!

Perhaps (technically) not but the service manuals make many references to a PCM in the car.

550 seems kinda small. Mine is a 590 CCA Delco (86-6 yr) and it just fits into the mount.

I had a C5 that did that; with me it was the battery. Was loose and when it would rattle the car shut down completely. I'm not saying that's it but it's a simple thing to check out.

I will defer to your knowledge of the 2005 manuals. I find no mention at all of a PCM in my 2007 manuals. It is always called an ECM. PCM was the term used in the C5 era and other terms have been used on other cars at other times. Trivial point but I was just trying to make the OP's searches yield more relevant results.
