Kind of a similar story...
See the car in my avatar? 2012 GS. Bought brand new 18 JAN 12.
Took it in to a dealer for the first oil change because I didn't trust billy bob at jiffy lube. (foreshadowing)
After waiting 2 hours some lady comes to talk to me and says: "We are going to need to keep your car over night." Instantly infuriated I asked why and she explains that they over filled the oil and they need to take some out. I immediately asked to speak to the service manager who explained the same thing.
In the end, the engine was severely damaged (rod #7 bent, piston damaged, plus other broke stuff) and I told them that I did not want the car back - ever.
After a little back and forth, they cut me a check for the full purchase price (I paid cash for the car) so I actually ended up driving it for free.

I'd put in a GM crate engine or maybe a low miles used one from a damaged car, upgrade from the LS2 to an LS3 if I had the smaller engine and the computer changes were easy.
Then I'd use the money I didn't spend on a fancy engine to do some long road trips.

I'd put an LS3 shortblock back in it. Even if you had a rod out of the side of the block, much of the top end could probably be reused. Mine is stock, but I might take the opportunity to do some porting and sneak a real mild smog friendly cam grind in there.

You're driving down the road, minding your own business and KERBLAM! 7 pistons are scattered for hundreds of feet behind you (can't find the 8th piston, I think it vaporized), The block is in 3 pieces. Not much left to salvage, maybe 2 spark plugs made it through the destruction...

Hopeful!
I basically agree UNTIL you start modding it and racing it. Anything can and will usually happen eventually. Remember these engines are basically CAD designed and NOT OVERLY BUILT, but balanced in strength design overall as is the rest of the car. The GM warranty implies this indirectly AND WARNS YOU NOT TO RACE OR MOD IT IF YOU WANT A WARRANTY IF IT BREAKS. Many have found out this the hard way; yes, there are some exceptions, just hope it is YOU!

Melting Slicks
If my LS3 block was salvageable then putting together a nice 416 in the garage wouldn't be too much $. Spend the rest on hookers and blow.
4.125" stroke is too much, LS3 block is a bad choice for a 427. Just IMO.
