4LT Dash Pad problem!!!

I had to do it with Nissan in the past, I will do it again to GM if I need to.

Should be class action based on how many people have had issues with no help from GM. Some people have gotten lucky and received assistance but with some out of pocket. Good luck. Will be curious to hear how this turns out for you.

I feel for you having just gone through this. The dealer was useless. They said they never saw this before(I call bs on that). However, my upholsterer has seen it which tells me people aren't getting help from GM. Be prepared because it's gonna worse. If you read my posts you will see it cost a little under $700 to fix the problem. This was the cheapest route. Good luck.

If you didn't discover the problem and get it fixed while the car was under warranty, it will be an expensive out of pocket expense.

As far as I can tell in doing research on this, all 4LT cars, no matter the year, have this problem when they leave the factory. It is just a matter of time and conditions until it surfaces. This is a manufacturing defect in the way in which glue is applied to the leather and dash.
As such GM will pay for it, the only question is will they do it the cheap way, and do it voluntarily, or the expensive way and have to be compelled to do so.

That is somewhere between criminal and immoral............maybe both. Shame on GM. Mine is getting worse by the day and I am going to have to do something pretty soon. I am really PO'd with GM on this issue. Everyone just shrugs their shoulders rolls their eyes and walks away.

My 2008 dash has been perfect thus far. 13k on the clock. Knock on wood.
As an engineer mu guess is that the epoxy was hand mixed and the repeatability from lot to lot was not very good, causing some to be fine and others to delaminate.

Well this thread is a killjoy in many ways for a prospective buyer. I found a 2008 that appears to be 4LT (the listing doesn't explicitly say, but the pictures seem to directly show it) and just about everything with the car lines up with what I'm looking for--except it's a 4LT (which not considering the issues in this thread, I'd love to have). They avoided taking any pictures involving the dash much, especially all the problem areas shown in this forum thread. Given the price of the car is a bit lower than I would have expected, I have this sneaking suspicion that the dash may have these issues.
Regardless, it seems like a crap shoot time bomb that could go off at any time and turn into an expensive repair if purchasing a used Corvette with 4LT. I hate to let something like this, which should be a desired option, cause me to run the other way--even when the price looks great. That just about seems like what I may need to do, however. Can I presume those of you who have battled with this now in hindsight wish you had gotten 3LT or lower?
Decisions decisions...

It seems to me that there is wide variation in how much adhesive was used and that the ones with problems just were not adequately glued down. I would think a 2008 that does not have the problem now is not likely to start. But if it is already coming loose then avoid it of course. I've got 4LT and love it, no problems so far. Like most problems, those that have it make far more noise than those without a problem so it gets exaggerated on the web. That does not let GM off the hook for not standing behind the quality of a very expensive option.

Some photos the dealer sent so far seem to show that the dash has no separation / bubbling. Keeping fingers crossed while waiting for a few more photos from more angles on the dash. It is comforting to find that there are those who have had a Corvette with 4LT for quite a while and no issues.

Has anyone seen a manufacturer name on these dashes?
GM does not make these, a sub supplier does. I have an idea who it is but was just curious. Should be someone like collins and aikman, etc.
(that's not to say GM shouldn't stand behind them..)

Haha, I should have known it was them. The last time I saw their plant the adhesive application was done by hand.
They have plants in SC and Mexico also, not just Germany.
