C6 Parts to Buy for Storage
The C6 will go out of production soon (already?). Maybe 15 years from now, you'll want to freshen up the interior, but parts may not be available.
Here's some suggestions from me:
*A steering wheel.. With age the leather wrap deteriorates and also the little buttons will lose the black paint, leaving a white-ish area where the little up and down arrows were.
*The Nav video display. Same comment about the buttons. The video display runs really hot. Drop it down horizontal after using it about 1/2 hour or so, and put your fingers on the back side....really hot. That kinda of heat is not condusive to a long lifetime. I just wonder how many years it'll last.
*New driver's side leather seat covering from the factory.
*The computers. I think there's three of them?
.................................
When I use the up and down button on the steering wheel, I press the button on the side with my fingernail so as to not put the pad of my finger on the little white arrow. No guess what? My fingernail has worn off the black paint, leaving a little white dot showing! So much for my smart idea!

I am sure if you keep your Vette that long, there will be plenty of OEM parts. Not much of a concern for most owners I would guess.

Get a couple cases of harmonic balancers for sure.

Not so sure. In the early 1980's, I could not find parts for my 1965 Mustang and 1968 Corvette. I sold the Mustang, but by the early 2000's I could buy parts for the 68 I couldn't before. (Thanks to Dr Rebuild, Paragon, Volunteer Vette, Corvette Central, Wilcox, and it just goes on and on.) 15 years from now, it's likely these people won't be selling vintage Corvette parts. If their parts available, they will be Chinese knockoffs of questionable quality. Better to buy the Real McCoy parts today!!!!!!!!

Also, please don't think that your suggestions to buy a complete spare car and keep it in storage is a lightening flash of a new idea. I have a 1970 Corvette in storage for my 1970 project car buildup.
A simple answer to the original post would have sufficed.

I'm sure there has been enough C6's built that there will be spare parts in the future. I wouldn't worry about it. What happens if you buy spare parts and then don't need them, plus you have to have a place to store them so they don't deteriorate or get torn up.
I personnally will be 82 yrs old in 15 years. I probably wont be worrying about what parts on my 15+ yr old car is needing replacing.
Sorry.

Don't worry about it, the parts will be there. Currently as of 2011 GM has constructed 190,012 C6 Corvettes. There will be a strong dealer and aftermarket support for those cars.

Not a bad thread at all IMO. From what I read on the C5 Forum there are zero new ECBM's for my 2000 Corvette. Probably other parts that are no longer available as well. Time marches on and thinking ahead is NOT a dumb idea. Now.......what should I stock up on for my '08? Hmmmm

Better get some spare Lloyd's logo floor mats.
And get some of those chrome tail-light grille thingies. And if you're a really big spender, get a chrome grille for the license-plate too.
And some of those ultra-exclusive Z-51 badges.

Melting Slicks
Anything plastic, especially if it's exposed to heat or uv rays.
Downside, I thought I would keep my '91 forever and stockpiled a half a garage full of parts. Traded it on a new one in July and now I have to deal with unloading this stuff for far less than I paid for it just to be rid of it.

If you don't have the intelligence for a meaningful reply, just don't answer. I asked for a listing of several parts that would be useful in the future. parts that might not be repro'd. I'm not going to buy a used car and save used parts. I want a list of OEM new unused parts.
Also, please don't think that your suggestions to buy a complete spare car and keep it in storage is a lightening flash of a new idea. I have a 1970 Corvette in storage for my 1970 project car buildup.
