what is a mint '06, manual, every option, 100K miles worth?
My friend is a car nut and has a lot of cars and just bought another. He does not have room for another car. He needs garage space. He wants to give me his C6. I can't just take it. I want to pay him something for it. What is it worth?
It's a '06 C6 coupe, Z51, clear roof, chrome wheels, manual, every option for a '06. New tires less then 100 miles ago. It is a CA car and in very-very good shape. Everyone who sees the car can't believe it has so many miles on it. It was his daily driver. He drove it between his 2 companies which are 50 miles apart so high mileage. It has 100K California highway miles on it. All service is up to date. It runs like new and has no problems except a small crack on the windshield. The car has the "heads Up Display" so I wonder how much to replace the windshield?
My problem is I would not normally buy a manual with all the stop and go traffic.

I agree completely with the above. Even before I saw it, after reading your description, that's the number I thought of. Be a good friend, as he is to you. (I'll hedge by saying maybe a little less due to miles and possibility you may be replacing more expensive stuff soon, but still it's not totally unfair number.)

Agree. As someone who is currently in the market for a Vette in California, I wouldn't pay over 17. Now, it may be a 25k car to some people, but I doubt the actual market will have it.
There was a gentleman with a clean white Vette with 92k miles and I think he sold it for around 20k.
(sorry about all the k's)

Since he is willing to just give it to you, I would think if you handed him 20k all would be good.

Give him $17. Maybe $15k. Its a deal for you and not unfair to him. Windshield is no biggy. Bet insurance pays less then $5bills for one installed. Is there a write off reason he wants to 'give' it to you and dosen't want money?

you said he wants to "give" it to you so i'm assuming you mean for free. If thats the case offer him $10-12k, i think he'll be happy with that and this way if something like the tranny goes and you need to rebuild it or something for like 1k he wont feel bad cause youre still ahead of the game.... Know what i mean? as far as the windshield, the HUD has nothing to do with the windshield cause its just a reflection from the dashboard..... Good luck, and nice friend!!
edit: I know a lot of you say the car is worth 20-25k, and it might be technically worth that cause its a vette, but its got 100k miles on it and the guy was willing to give it to him, so to offer more than 10-12k i think is crazy... would you pay 20k for another car with 100k on it? (sports cars aside)

From your last statement it doesn't seem like you really want it, right? I know he is your friend but what would you do with the car if you already have a vette? I assume you do but if not and you could deal with a stick in traffic then I wouldn't pay more then 10-15K for any car with over 100,000 miles. It may be worth more but it wouldn't be to me. This could be a perfect car to put on a supercharger and just have fun with. Engine is already well broken in.

The C6 is a company car. My friend is very well to do, has many cars and usually is in and out of them before they have many miles. I can't believe he kept this C6 for so long let alone long enough to put 100K miles on it. I guess that is a testament to how much he enjoyed driving it.
My problem is it is not a perfect car for me if I were looking to buy a C6. I had a couple of automatic C6 a couple of years ago and really prefer them. I was not looking for another C6 let alone a manual. This just kind of popped up on me.
I don't know anyone who has 100K on a C6? How reliable are they and what is known to fail as the miles go up? What are common replacement items in the future? Like I said, I have had a couple of C6 before but had warranty so I was not really concerned about what something cost to fix.
I thought it would be a good opportunity to fly in to LA and drive back to Chicago on historic Route 66.

I don't care how nice it is,it's still a chevy with 100k on it and they tend to start falling apart over 100k.I wouldn't pay more then 15 grand for it if i really, really fell in love with it.California traffic is brutal so "California miles" is no prize.

I say donate 5K to his favorite charity in his name.
Rebuild the engine. Replace other items as needed (brakes, hoses, belts, tires, etc.)
Take it on a long ride across the country.
Then, give it to me.

It sounds as if your friend isn't hurting for money. He didn't want to trade it in because he still cared for the car.

with you're last statement it sounds like you just want it cause its a friends car and you'll get it real cheap.... if you want it don't give him more than 10k, it's not worth it if you're not "dying" to get it..... offer the 5k charity thing to him and see what he thinks.... otherwise save your money for your next dream car....
