Laser & Radar Detector Opinions Please
#2
I have both the Valentine one and the Passport 9500ix I use blendmount mirror mounts. The Valentine one is faster and more accurate but has a ton of false alarms the passport adjusts and locks out the false alarms. The Valentine one is in my vette..the passport is in my Toyota 4 runner....sums it up!

I have the 9500xi and blend mount in my GS. You can spend a ton of money and you will still get tickets if your not carefull. There is no defense against instant on. LEO's see you coming and pull the trigger and they will be asking for your autograph, ask me how I know.

The Valentine One is my choice for a window mounted detector. You can program it and add Savvy to quiet it down. Savvy uses your speed to determine if the alert should be muted or give you a full response.
Beltronics STi R Plus is my first choice in remote units. Similar to the Escort 9500ci but comes with more flexible settings to make is more responsive.
Laser Interceptors for Jammers if you go down that road.
Nothing is 100 percent full proof.

What he said exactly. I've been running a V1 for 10+ years & the trick (in CA.) is paying attention to Ka beeps for instant-on up ahead & I could never go without the V1 arrows again. I use the V1 suction cups right of mirror, with a 15" MirrorTap cord.
I will also do the Laser Interceptors, just 2 in front, as the price outweighs the ticket & insurance hike, if not for the principle alone of fighting the organized extortion that is modern day law enforcement & insurance rates.

The Valentine, without a doubt. It gives you the best information, where the threats are, how many threats there are, what band they are using, and identifies which is the worst threat. It even has front AND rear laser detectors.

You know if you are misbehaving. If you are...100% breaking effort is a must on Ka chirp. Maybe you get nailed, maybe not. Not 100% either way in my experience.
Lots of alerts with V1. You will learn your area cops and what bands they use. If you DD your vet it will become annoying. I'm considering getting a 9500ix for my DD for this very reason.

30 years on the "other side" of the radar gun:
Valentine arrows give vital information if you know how to use them, if you don't then it's just another expensive and noisy detector.
For me, the Valentine is the best tool available.
Other units have nice features and I will jump to one of them when they start including arrows, but not until then.

I'm using the 9500ix. I had a V1, the arrows are pointless in my opinion, regardless of whether I had a forward/side/rear arrow, I slowed down, and that's the job of a radar detector. I prefer a radar that learns, adapts, and can be updated right here at home.

One example: Your driving on the highway. You get a K band alert on your V1. You look over and see the arrows go from front, to side, to rear as you are passing a car with K band lane assist. You just learned that the K was from lane assist and it is a false alert and you continue your journey. How long would it take for you to determine it was a false alert without the arrows?
