Default Used 2010 GS 4lt vs New 2013 GS 2lt

I've found a fully loaded, chrome wheels, '10 GS 4lt with 4k miles for $51k. I see a nearby dealer with a new '13 GS 2lt with dual mode exhaust for $54k. Love the wheels and interior of the '10. The '13 has alum wheels. Both have nav.

What all would you consider in your comparison here?

Thanks in advance!

(Btw, I see that my last login was 2006 when I sold my z06 when we started having kids... youngest just had 5th bday and I figured I was ready again!)

I would go for the new '12 (or '13, from the heading). I just don't like pre-owned cars, plus you've got a full warranty.

$3000 more for a brand new car. I would go that route.

If you go to trade it on a C7 in a couple of years, your trade-in value on the '10 will be a whole lot less than $3,000.00 less than the '13. You could just order a new '13 just the way you want it, if you don't mind waiting for delivery; or go on line and find one from another dealer. It remains a buyers market for Corvettes.

I'd go for the new car. You can always add chrome wheels, someone will want the others I'm sure.

Well, there are two sides to this. A 4LT car is in the area of a 10K higher price car new, so given the effective price difference is 13K for a very low miles car. If you live in state with personal property taxes as I do the taxes will be higher year after year on the newer car. Typically, the insurance will also be somewhat higher on the newer car. A big difference for me would be if I prefer the color combo on one car versus the other. I'm a big fan of high option cars, once you have them you generally don't want to go back. So for me it could be a pretty close call for the above reasons.

so here you are 6 years later, ready to buy a new car or used one. are you familiar w. forum dealers? is there a reason we don't know what state you live in via your profile? our guesswork makes it difficult to improve your guesswork. just sayin'/////

oh, and my guess based on knowing very little other than what you posted? buy the '13.

There's usually more wiggle room in a used car. Find out what the "bottom line" price is on both cars. I have no problem buying used, especially if there's still a couple years warranty left on the car. The 4LT interior is a pretty big upgrade IMO, and may be worth the money if the car is in pristine condition. I would go out and look at both cars, sit in the seats, etc.

I would approach the person with the used one and let them know that you are looking at a 2year newer car brand new for just $3k more and tell them you want their firm and final price on the used one - that you're not going to play games and you're going to make a decision depending on what they tell you. See what they come back with and if you don't like it, tell them you aren't going to buy their car, most likely someone will call back and try to sweeten the deal for you even more. Seems no matter how hard you try to tell them "no games" they can't help but play :-)

A 4LT car is $6,500 more then a 2LT car, not $10,000

If that is the only difference that may be true, but very often 4LT cars are more highly optioned besides the 4LT and more often than not they approach 10K higher than 2LT cars. For me the seats are also preferable in 4LT cars with the change that was made in 2012 to drop the sport seats from the 2LT package. Of course others may have different priorities.

Can you get the extended warranty on the 2010 or is it to old?

I'd certainly go with the new. You will have peace of mind for sure, the new seats look much better, and as mentioned earlier, you can even get the car exactly the way you want it. If it were me, I'd seriously consider ordering an Inferno Orange Metallic 2LT with black wheels and black headlight bezel, NPP, and the bigger rear spoiler

Great stuff, thanks everyone. I'm going to go sit in the '13 tomorrow to see the interior and also check out the wheels.

Performance-wise, they're the same, right? Any major issues with the '10 that's been addressed with later models?

^ there were changes to the configuration of the 2LT vs 3LT interiors from '11 to '12 & forward... check carefully to understand the differences.

$51k for a 2010 isn't that great of a deal to be honest. 4k miles is low but a 2010 shouldn't have that many miles on it anyway.

I would call a forum vendor first, if anything they'll give you an idea how much the 2013 is actually worth.

Go new. the 2LT is a good package, has more in 2013 than it did in 2010. i agree with the above guys who say the 2013 is a better deal too.
