not a real Vette...? :)
I thought only C4 owners got that lol....I have an 84 C4. Seems I get it in many ways, usually its from someone that claims it looks too much like an 84 Firebird or Camaro......each to his own...am still thrilled with my C4, am sure lots and lots of Vettes out there I would love to have but at the end of the day, I count my blessings and thankful for what I have...
Cheers!

Jerks say rude and stupid things like that on CF and others would ignore it. Maybe they think its funny. In person it sounds worse and its harder to ignore.
I'm like most people, I have my favorite Corvettes. But there is something to appreciate in every one of them.
BTW - I think you have a great looking car, and its a real Corvette.
Cheers,
JB

1% of people talk down one car or generation but most do not, just ignore that 1%.
Most commonly, I hear trash about the C4. I can't stand it.
I've owned a C3, C4, and C6. I loved them all and still do but for different reasons. Enjoy your C6, you are in good company.

The guy trying to tell you a '78 Corvette is more car than any C6 tells you all you need to know about him.
My first Corvette was a 1976 and believe me, it was a POS!

I have had people tell me the same about my 85. Only 220 hp but it is still a blast to drive!!
Some people just don't get it. All vettes are in their own way and all are "real". Just ignore the haters and enjoy your Vette.

I had a '78 Vette coupe with the L82 engine and 4 speed, the fastest Vette you could buy at the time. I liked the look, but the car was dog slow, rough riding, noisy and not too good handling. I was routinely getting dusted by Trans Ams and of all things, Dodge Little Red Trucks. I owned it for 3 months and traded it in for a '78 Trans Am 400 4 speed, nicer, faster and better handling. I've got a new GS coupe 6 speed now, and believe me, the GS is far and away a better car in every way, not to diss owners of the '78s, but drive both and be honest. The guy was just a major dick, probably jealous of your GS.
Your Vette was slower than the T/A? They had the same horse power and the Corvette was lighter by far and I cant see how the T/A handled better on narrower tires and being THAT much heavier.
Love both cars and wouldnt NOT be a nice guy to anyone driving them.
L48? We had a 78 L48 automatic.....wowsers was it slow. lol
The thing is, have you ever seen the bottom end of those cars? Forged internals are pretty strong.

The man just expressing his opinion, I would have asked why he felt that way. Could have been a interesting conversation, but whatever no biggie.

From his delievery I am sure his back-up for his opinion would have been less interesting than reading the ingredients in a soy protein bar.

I get that at the shows sometimes, too
"These are nice, but they're nothing like the old ones..."
To which I reply -
"yep, they're nothing like the old ones - 12.5 quarter, 0-60 4.2, 185+ top end,
goes around corners like the old ones couldn't even dream of,
AND gets 28 mpg - in air conditioned comfort..."
I feel that I speak with some 'authority' as I bought my first Vette in 1966 (a '63)
and have owned one or 2 of every generation since...
I had a 1980 that, for the time, was a beautiful car - but I always said it was more of a 2 seat Monte Carlo than a real Corvette...
Not to take away from the 'classics', but the current gen is no slouch...

You guys are comparing apples to oranges. In 1978 the Corvette was the top of the line and the envy of everyone. I bought one new. It didn't matter how much horsepower it had. When you had one you were top dog. I never heard anyone say anything about the horsepower back then. All of the cars had smog devices that slowed them down. I feel just as good today driving my 78 as I do my C6. And trust me, I get just as many oohs and aahs with my 78 as I do with my C6.

You didnt get very good gears in those years either. That is part of the reason why they and the C4s were so slow.
My friend has a 78 Firebird with the small block chevy engine, 4-speed and 3.08 open gears. I have a stock replacement 327ci/350hp cam and lifter set I gave him. He is changing the intake and carb out, already has full exhaust for it, and plans to put some old school camel hump heads on it. The thing should run pretty decent then. Oh, forgot....I have an extra 3.42 rear out of a 78 Z28 sitting in my parents garage that we will put in it. Should make her run pretty decent then.
